Yeah, yeah, ads on YouTube, I'm watching on my TV. Bite me.

I'm more surprised that the ratio of Youngkin (R) to McAuliffe (D) is like, 3:1, maybe more.

I've seen anti-abortion ads, an ad with various police officers staring sternly into the camera and complaining about police things and "extremist Democrats" (real quote from that one), the usual bitching about the economy, etc. Blatant preaching to the choir stuff that wouldn't convert anyone that isn't already going to vote that way; in other words, MAGA rally stuff.

I shouldn't be surprised, but fuck if it isn't obnoxious. I'm just trying to watch some videos about video games, goddammit

There's probably a really easy way to block ads on your TV depending on the model.

Please, for the love of Free Market Jesus, tell me. It's a Samsung, and if something as basic as a PiHole will solve it I'll be buying a Pi tomorrow

Well the pihole might work cause it blocks stuff across your entire network.

DM me the model of your Samsung and I'll do some research for ya. I'm actually curious for whenever my old plasma Samsung crap out and I'll have to get a smart tv.

It's a Samsung NU7100, model code UN50NU7100. From a quick search it seems like LAN-level DNS blockers work, so I'm probably gonna go that way, plus it'll take load off of uBlock on my laptop and phone and such.

On a related note, I had a 42" Panasonic plasma as my first flatscreen, that thing was amazing. Heavy as lead, but great picture. Power board went out and I wasn't confident enough at the time to try and fix it, so I took it to a local shop... who told me it was "actshually" an LCD and that he couldn't fix it. Yeah, that was fun

Ah. I'll probably look into LAN level blocking once I get a smart tv. Setting up pihole is just only more thing to bother with that I'd rather not when I can just install an ad blocker on our phones and computer quickly. Plus with my wireless access points and server plugged into the router, I don't have any free ethernet ports. Need to invest in a network switch eventually.

@treewojima this is a real quick 5 min Google search I did that you could try before investing in a pi. Blocking the ad sites from your router.

No need to invest; if you're running that stuff out of your router, a cheap unmanaged switch will work fine to expand wired capacity. I can't imagine an eight port switch would cost much, even off a Best Buy shelf. I'm gonna probably get myself one for the Pi, I keep my mobile devices wireless but still prefer to hardwire whatever I can, so my modem is about all used up between my consoles and my TV. Gotta leave room for when I get my own file/media server working again, or just give in and upgrade to something modern lol

That's a good thing to try at a cursory glance. I'm still using my ISP modem/router, I'll fight with the settings in the morning. Last time I logged in to change the default WiFi settings the interface seemed pretty restrictive, but there's definitely a subsection for DNS settings.

My media server currently has dual 10 gigabit uplinks but bottlenecked by the router. You know of a unmanaged switch that can give me 10gb ports cause when I get a network switch, that's what I'll be looking for. Lol

Dual 10 gig links? What the fuck are you serving and to whom, and it better not be yourself other than for networking nerd shits and giggles... or porn. Can never have enough throughput for porn

I'm pretty sure a generic Linksys will work though, you just gotta twist certain wire pairs together, overclock the switch and write a new driver for the physical layer and shit. ez peezy

Lmao. I manage all my company's hardware at our datacenter. We have a few cheap($4000) enterprise level rack mount Synology devices. We decommissioned one and my boss said either I can take it or it gets tossed. Nothing wrong with it and I really wanted a 40tb NAS server for the house. (4) 1gb ETH ports and a 2 port 10gb card. Use it as a Plex media server for all devices in the house.
