I mean I'll gladly trash on rightwingers all day, but I can't imagine feeling joy at someone suffering or dying from covid, when it comes to everyday people. Some of the people pulling their strings, no comment.

Yes, and only a complete and absolute moron, wouldn't be able to see the blatantly obvious reason why......

Is there vaccinations for those preventable diseases and are they currently causing a global pandemic?

People want to latch on to whatever they can to feel like they are better than the next person. Even (especially) if they are defenseless.

Not with people deliberately not getting the vaccine because of conspiracy theories, spreading misinformation, or just being all around stupid, nor should it be considered insensitive. Not to mention the fact they've directly contributed to it spreading when we could have potentially stopped it a year ago.

These are people who downplay the effects of the disease to their family and friends, who go on these self-righteous social media crusades to try and spread it to as wide of an audience as possible, and who end up dying of it despite having the means to lessen the impact of the disease on their immune system. Through their actions, they try to influence others to follow their lead, which puts those other people in the same amount of danger they've been put in. Their actions don't just harm themselves.

The fact is that by masking up, using hand sanitizer and getting vaccinated, people - both individually and the people around them - are less likely to catch COVID and die. To not only refuse to do any of that, but to influence other people to forego these measures, objectively makes the world a worse place to live and puts other people at risk.

If an anti-vaxxer, anti-masker moron dies of COVID, then that is karma. They had multiple lines of defence, and not only did they refused to protect themselves in any way, shape or form, they were so convinced that the virus was a hoax that they actively dissuaded people from protecting themselves. For their efforts, they died an awful, preventable death - and if their influence convinced another person to take the same path as them with the same results, then they were responsible for that death as well.

So no. "I told you so" isn't too insensitive for anti-vax people dying of COVID. They're killing other people with their rhetoric, and they're dying specifically because they refuse to protect themselves or take the virus seriously.

Consider the YouTube prankster who got his girlfriend to shoot him in the chest with only a Bible for protection - is it a tragedy for his family? Sure. But to a wider audience, maybe he shouldn't have allowed himself to be shot in the chest for a YouTube video - at least without adequate protection. The fact that he and another person got so far along in the process of that stunt that he actually got shot in the chest and died is ridiculous, because there are a bunch of different measures he could have taken to lessen the danger of the stunt, and there were multiple points where either of them could say "hey, maybe we shouldn't be shooting someone with live ammunition for a YouTube video". Any sane, rational person would tell you that getting shot for clout is an absolutely idiotic thing to do in any context. But they went ahead with the stunt and the guy died an idiot's death.

We don't go "that's cruel, a man died, so some respect". We say "what a fucking moron, letting him get shot in the chest with only a Bible for protection". We recognise that had that person exercised basic fucking human sense, he would still be alive.

All of that applies to these anti-vax morons on a much larger scale. You have the means to prevent yourself from dying, and not only do you refuse to utilize any of them, you try to drag everyone else down with you. It's objectively fucking stupid and harmful to everyone around you. So fuck sympathy - if you reject any and all measures to protect yourself from a deadly virus, and take the childish position that the virus is actually just as benign as the common cold and not worth worrying about, your death from said virus is a fucking farce and you should have known better.

I don't think it's a very good spirited thing to make fun of anyone suffering. I don't wish anyone harm, and when someone gets a blood clot, has complications or even dies from the vaccine, I feel bad for them because they were just trying to do what they thought was right.

To me, "I told you so," feels like it comes more from a place of fatigue, caring, and frustration in someone.

"You got what you deserved," though. That one's a bit more clear cut.

Covid isn't something I'd wish on anyone, but I have a hard time having any sympathy for those that catch it, when beforehand they were either calling it a hoax, spreading misinformation on social media or mocking those that wore masks and got vaccinated.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. It's kinda shitty.

I can't say whether a person who ignores precautions deserves an "I told you so," but it's still kinda shitty to rub salt in the wounds of someone who is dying. There's still a personal accountability to be had.

there is a difference between being insensitive to the type of person who has a big platform they use to throw around covid misinfo being in that situation and people who have fallen into the net of the former type of person and are just parroting them.

one of them is actively evil and likely knows better (which is why that type of person is dying at a much smaller rate), the other person is just stupid and them literally dying seems like more than enough of a cruel fate. libs doing dx crotch chops at people's dead relatives on twitter is incredibly gross and stupid

I dont think there's anything wrong with "I told you so". People just don't like to hear it because it's a reminder that they suck and they think they can get away with their previous stance.

It can be a little insensitive depending on the consequences someone faces but I think its pretty much always deserved.

on one hand some of my best friends are anti vax for this one(dunno about child vaccinations and stuff) but on the other they masked up when required, presented corona tests for public gatherings, knew how to isolate themselves and don't spread idiotic conspiracy shit 24/7 on social media so i wouldn't get schadenfreude if something bad happened to them.

everyone else who don't fit into the above category? i would probably laugh at them to their faces while they were gasping for their last breaths of air if the opportunity presented itself.

Another issue is if these people know someone that got Covid and only had mild symptoms, it'll give them another reason to think that it's "just like the flu" and think they'll also experience those symptoms if they were to catch it. Not understanding that everybody is different.
