goldenBoi45 09/07/21 7:54:46 PM #1:	My gf dragged me to see this, and even as liberal and pro black as she is, she even she admits the movie was garbo. The original movie was smart and subtle with it's social commentary. The ignorance of rich whites, along with the violence and hostility of black people who's neighborhoods were being taken away were both shown in equal light. The Candyman did not kill based on race at all. And the main racial theme in the movie was gentrification. Not police brutality. The new movie instead made Candyman some type of anti hero, taking out racist cops and other evil whites. They have you rooting for the kills (because apparently everyone hates white people now) instead of being scared in the slightest. The social commentary here is like a shovel to the face. With no respect for the audience's intelligence. The movie also suffers from a terrible script, some insane overreacting, and a seriously dumb plot. Stop making movies political with some dumbass social justice "message". People are too smart for this shit. I watched this movie in D.C. with a mostly black theatre crowd and there was alot of sighs and sucking of teeth in the audience. When it was over we all just kinda walked out in silence. Deservedly so. This movie is a 3/10. And only because of a few pretty shots do I even give it that --- Getting girls is all about honesty.
