What do you do when someone asks you how much money you make?

I say more money than you've ever seen in your lifetime in a sarcastic way and that ended the conversation.

Only my parents know cause my contracts and pay rise letters still get delivered to their house so I just ask them to open and send me pix

Otherwise with most people I just skirt around the question or give a stupidly large ballpark

More than I need at 80-84th percentile US household income depending how you calculate it

People who earn more or less are no more or less worthy of respect as a human and treating people worse because of their income is disgusting behavior

Not enough for working outside all day. But it's rude to ask. I "know" a fellow co-worker who often boasts making more at a second job and they are gunning for a manager spot there. Like okay bye bye. It's either who you know or who you blow. For me none of those options applied where I am.

If it's a stranger/co-worker I won't go much into detail, maybe just that "It's okay".

I haven't been asked such a thing directly, though.

"I'm solidly middle class." I just leave it at that.

Though, w/ the 50% increase in house prices, I now am having trouble finding a house so maybe that's not even a good answer anymore.

I tell them because the "it's rude to ask" thing was something invented and spread by corporations to keep wages low. It's really stupid that Americans still think it's rude to talk about wages.

I tell them. I'm a open book and see no point in avoiding a simple question. With that said I haven't got asked this all that much nor have I actually asked others. The closest I've got to asking is when someone says a certain company they work for is hiring and then I'd ask if the pay is good. Normally the other person elaborates on their own wage. In general I don't care about other people finances or how much money they have or make. When I hear others bragging about it it's very obnoxious.
