Whole venom is not being used as a therapeutic. Snake venom has dozens to hundreds of components, and they vary from one snake to another. Here they isolated a single protein from one snake species venom.
Headlines like this piss me off, whether they're intentionally misleading or done out of ignorance. It's clear the consequence of the headline will be people think raw, unprocessed venom. Better title: molecule isolated from viper venom may become tool in fighting covid It's an opportunity to teach readers how and why massive drug screening experiments are done --- Take me for what I am -- who I was meant to be.
