WhatsApp can be used over Wi-Fi so that's free messaging if you have access to a Wi-Fi signal. That's why I use it. Also my sister doesn't do social media but uses that.

Apart from normal messaging its very convenient and cheap for long distance calls, and you can even do video calls. I talk to my niece in Germany all the time. On a related note, I know people on here not into sports, but Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden move back to Man Utd was first leaked from WhatsApp. He was talking to his friends in the UK about it lol.
