Evacuation is still the correct decision, but it's hard to internally rationalize that against the fact that everything you own will likely be destroyed and you're going to be forced to start over with nothing. The decrease in people heeding evacuation calls is honestly a symptom of the general feeling of hopelessness that's sorta gripping the nation as a whole right now. In the mind of a lot of these people, and if they lose everything they can't afford to start again and their lives are over; so why not witness first hand if you're able to continue living after this or not. But for some people who want to follow the advice, its still extremely difficult to just pickup and go on a days notice. What do elderly do who have no support and barely get around their own home? I do think grown ass adults who are able should have just hopped on their car and driven away. Who cares if ur sleeping in ur car for a few nights in the middle of nowhere. That said, last night I saw on the news they managed to get 14 or so people out of Grand Isle. If you look at where Grand Isle is, you'll probably have the same reaction I had. "Why the fuck would you stay there". It's a barrier island connected by marsh several miles South of New Orleans perfectly in the path. That's just asking for it.
