It is. Idc what people say about how people talk about future generations.

but living in the 90 to 2000s internet boom was great. Got to live the best of both worlds. Before the over reliance of technology and the amazement of using it. We used to call used game stores to see if they had an N64 game we were looking for, looking up movie times on phone pages. Being dropped off at the mall and picked up later

the last Time I seen kids at the mall was they made a plan for hundreds to swarm it and start a fight. They caused chaos and were just stealing shit every from everywhere

What malls do you go to? Do you break in or are you allowed to just walk right in?

Agreed. Highland Mall in Austin, TX was THE PLACE TO BE on weekends. It was sad to see how dead that place became. Now it's an Austin Community College campus.

I went to a mall yesterday that was a ghost town. A lot of empty stores. Spirit of Halloween would be licking their chops if they saw that

Or do you mean malls that are still around, but just aren't popular anymore? As opposed to abandoned malls?

Traditional malls around here seem to have been replaced by the open air variety. Those kinds are still pretty popular. Honestly, I don't understand why though. They look nicer but they're functionally the same

They were pretty boring honestly, full of nothing but overpriced junk, and little to no activity, to do or expore. I would have loved to have been a kid during the arcades peak though.

Sad how sort it was before consoles took over.

Dead mall means it lost its popularity.

Abandoned buildings is something else.

We had two. The one on the west side of town has been booming since the early 00s, and is always packed.

The one on the east side - which was the most popular one in the 80s and 90s - suffered in the last 20 years. It was the most depressing place to go to. They finally closed it a couple of years ago, and tore it down this year

Have you been to an actual dead mall? Theyre a very real thing. Theyre not closed off to the public or anything but arent popular anymore doesnt do them justice, theyre basically empty corridors with one or two operating stores near the entrances keeping them afloat, Westridge Mall in Fergus Falls is a good example:

Dying malls as well, not just ones that are basically empty.

But walking around a truly dead mall is pretty eerie.

No, I haven't, but when I first read the topic I assumed TC meant abandoned malls which I imagine are pretty spooky. I can imagine walking through a dead mall would be pretty surreal too tho

This. They are everywhere in developing cities. Functionally they are exactly the same and Im not sure why these have become the new norm. I guess its more trendy for them to just be outside? I dunno.

My mall is still decently popular, which makes me happy. But I've been to malls where there are more empty store fonts than actual stores and nobody is around. It is depressing. A good mall is a wonderful thing.

I e always wanted to do this ever since discovering Dan Bell's channel on YouTube. Some of the atmospheres are just chilling, especially when you have stuff like two restaurants in the food court somehow still operating after everything else has shut down.

There's a defunct Halloween supply store around here with a clown in the window I want to check out like this. Just don't have any access...

Southeast michigan saw about 5 major malls fall in the last 20 years. I walked all of them when they were dying. The saddest was the Livonia Mall. The old theater. The tiled food court with the waterfall. And creepy ass Dr Office. Just so sad to see it all rot. Then it became a Walmart like most others did.

You can live this right now if you are in the area with the Westland mall. Many doors are shuttered, and the few that are left are just lingering. You just walk around with echoing ambient music in an empty mall. Its exactly like those segments of Dawn of the Dead.

They've literally started demolishing parts of the closest mall. I had some fond memories of the Electronics Boutique and this NASCAR store that used to be there.

Now it's just a gym, JCPenny and the food court's immediate area. The rest is gone
