https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-us-hospital-icu-bed-shortage-veteran-dies-treatable-illness/

When U.S. Army veteran Daniel Wilkinson started feeling sick last week, he went to the hospital in Bellville, Texas, outside Houston. His health problem wasn't related to COVID-19, but Wilkinson needed advanced care, and with the coronavirus filling up intensive care beds, he couldn't get it in time to save his life.

"He loved his country," his mother, Michelle Puget, told "CBS This Morning" lead national correspondent David Begnaud. "He served two deployments in Afghanistan, came home with a Purple Heart, and it was a gallstone that took him out."

Anti vaxxers are causing other people to die needlessly.

I literally told you guys this weeks ago.

Kakli recalled making multiple phone calls to other facilities, only to get a lot of, "sorry sorry sorry," in reply.

I'm on the other end of that line saying 'sorry'. But if its a case like this where they absolutely need the specialist right away and if they don't they die, then I bend the rules, regardless if my higher ups get upset. I'd probably accept him as a transfer and tell the transfer center to prioritize an ICU bed for him instead of our ER patients who technically already have critical care beds.

But yea I've said sorry to multiple doctors at these smaller ERs who don't have the resources they need to treat their patients. And I tell them all the same thing, "people aren't getting the vaccine, so covid is overwhelming us right now". And the docs on the other end go, "we hear that same story from everyone we call"

This was fucking 4 weeks ago.

I'm definitely of the mind that hospitals should be able to turn away people who choose not to get vaccinated unless they actually have a legitimate documented medical excuse.

  • Healthcare workers are beyond burned out from watching people die all day every day for almost over a year and a half. We have many people in the healthcare industry quitting because they can't stand the helplessness or the abuse from people who think covid is a hoax while they're in the hospital because of covid.
  • Anti-vaxxers are refusing to trust the CDC until they get badly sick themselves. Then they go to a hospital that follows CDC guidelines and take up an ICU bed that someone else needs.

Also:
  • We've tried explaining that covid is deadly. Anti-vaxxers don't want to listen.
  • We've tried explaining that the vaccines are safe and effective. Anti-vaxxers don't want to listen.
  • We've tried bribing people with large lottery prize chances, small sums of money, beer, concert/festival tickets, etc. Anti-vaxxers don't want to listen.

Some people need to be dragged kicking and screaming into reality.

I know mississippi has opened up some field hospitals. Our hospital brought in another group of army doctors and nurses but they're going to be managing non-covid patients, which is annoying because we actually like taking care of those patients. Managing only covid gets exhausting. I'm sure its happening all over the place where they are overwhelmed. Mississippi turned a parking garage into a hospital. Whats sad is even that wasn't enough and they had to open a second field hospital.

hospitals are bleeding workers because of this shit. nobody wants to go to work, get screamed at by crazies claiming they're working for the 5g liberal gates cabal, get screamed at by sick crazies saying that they're actually being poisoned instead of dying from a virus they refused to take seriously, get screamed at by stupid crazies demanding prescriptions for antiparasitics and and lupus medication, get screamed at by the dying crazies who are just realizing 5 minutes before the tube goes down their throat that they want a vaccine, and get screamed at by the grieving families of crazies for not doing more to stop their crazy family members death! so workers are either quitting or eating a bullet to escape this shit.

States / countries need to start passing laws that explicitly forbid hospitals, private ones included, from providing medical care relating to covid to those who actively refuse the vaccine for conspiracist and/or religious reasons. Morons should not be pandered to, especially when they put others in danger.

What is fascinating, is I live in a highly concentrated part of the Mid-Atlantic, close to the Northeast region.

I can still get into a hospital. I can still get a parking spot at a hospital. I have yet to have known a single person under the age of 75 that has died due to Co-Vid19 complications.

I ain't an anti vaxxer, I got vaccinated. But I wonder how many of these stories are being stretched to churn an agenda or just to line some pockets.

What I do know is, booster time is approaching and Moderna, Phizer and J&J are about to be getting paid

You can still get into a hospital in most places. It's the ICU where they care for covid patients where bed availability is scarce.

Said ICU is also where advanced care takes place. Like gallstone removal surgery.

I haven't been in an ICU and I am not trying to downplay any of this, because I could be wrong have any inclinations about it

It's just like there is a narrative of some clear and present danger lingering around and honestly, maybe I am naive, but I just don't see it.

I had COVID-19, it sucked, but I also don't know anyone or anyone who passed of it that didn't already having a foot in the grave.

The youngest person I knew was a 61 year old family friend that weighed over 400 pounds, so it's hard to say that COVID-19 was the biggest factor there.

So, because you personally haven't seen it, there is nothing to worry about? Nevermind the 650,000 people who have died because of covid in the US alone? Nevermind all of the people who are dealing with long term symptoms from having a severe covid infection? Nevermind the fact that people who need emergency care can't get it in some areas because some states are completely out of ICU beds?

But you individually not having seen it means it's not a big deal.

Sure.

Politicians and Health authorities need to step up and change these policies on hospital bed priority. Are there any countries/places where there are policies in place that regulate hospital beds to prioritize vaccinated patients? Or de-prioritize un-vaccinated? Seems like something easy to pass in a pandemic given the dire circumstances.

The big pharma angle is also dumb. If there was a conspiracy where covid was all just a ploy for them to get paid, it's too late to crack that unless you're expecting a complete vaccine shutdown. They don't benefit from more people getting the vaccine from this point. It's the opposite, because vaccines are perishable. They get paid for whatever they sell even if it's not used, and people ignoring the vaccine means more get thrown out. The need for boosters is also a direct result of anti-vaxxers causing the pandemic to extend

Different regions have different amount of cases and vaccination rates. Like the South is being hit way harder than the rest of the country currently and has terrible vaccination rates in most of those states.

Pennsylvania, and many of the states in the Northeast, has one of the highest vaccination rates thus far. There are probably other mitigating factors like local administrative restrictions and requirements that these other states do not have.
