No matter what model you go by, losing customers is worse than losing merchandise. Everytime I step in Walgreens I feel like I'm in jail. The decisions to lock up certain merch is driven by analytics. They may have lost you as a customer but that's only one person. If locking up the merch led to more lost revenue due to lost customers rather than stolen merch then they wouldn't do it. I'm not trying to persuade you to shop at walgreens again or anything as I really don't shop there myself because everything costs more over there.
