When they were younger? I was checking a youtubers new videos to see if he had another video from any of a few series of his I like and I noticed a new video. It was him apologizing for comments he made. The reason he was apologizing is one person sent him Tweets from 2016 & 2017 that he made. So 4 and 5 years ago... Like I think I'd understand if it were from this year. But you would have to dig deep for multiple years ago. Not to mention, as a youtuber, I think they usually have many more tweets, so... I never understood why people just dig through everyone's history just to find things they said forever ago. Like they have to do that intentionally. It's not like they stumble upon a 4 and 5 year old post accidentally. So, why do they look for it just to make someone give an apology? Why not leave it alone...

Also, from the little of the video I watched, I don't think the things he said was that bad...

theres a real strategy that some people use of creating chaos and then trying to capitalize on the confusion, it can be pretty effective unfortunately

I've never been one for saying fucked up shit except maybe in private. But I used to get mad back when I smoked weed and people would try taking a picture of me smoking. I told them if it ended up online id kill them.

One did end up online but fortunately I wasnt the focus of the picture and I was mostly a shilloute due to the lighting

Sometimes, it not event hat bad. Or it's taken out of context. Or it something that wasn't bad back in the day, but now is (as all kind of stuff is these days)... Plus, some of them were really young, and made a mistake. No reason to cancel them over something a young version of them said 10 years ago... Especially if it's something they wouldn't say these days...

It only bugs me when its something from so long ago it was socially acceptable back then. Like give them the benefit of the doubt they learned and became better like I wager most people above the age of 50 have used the n word at some point in their life. People are dumb, but they can learn to be less dumb. If someone owns their mistake and vows to learn and grow from it I say give them a pass.

Of course this is strictly based off of someone posting something stupid. If they're someone like OJ or Trump and they're a garbage human being or remorseless criminal scumbag on top of posting dumb shit, then maybe they don't get a pass and they deserve to get dumped on

Do you think racism and sexism in the past can be ignored just because people in power looked the other way? Because there were people back then who knew that these things were bad, and either fought against them or were victims of them.

I remember as a kid some of the things I said, or that others around me said, that would definitely not be ok these days... But those same people are very different from the person they were back then. And would never say those things this day... That's why I think it's weird to just dig in someone's past like that... Especially since how things are perceived changes over time. Some things use to be more acceptable. I remember watching a video where a guy talks about how some jokes in older tv shows were fine like 5 or 10 years ago. But if they were used today, they would be canceled immediately... I think they were popular shows, as well...

But to dig into someone past to find something they said forever ago that they would never say now is not the same as ignoring something racist they recently said... And they may not have known certain things were bad back then, because they may not have been bad back then. Like I said with certain tv shows. They say stuff that was fine to say back when they were on the air. But during today's time, they couldn't say the same things...

Because basically everybody has said stuff that wasn't 100% a-okay at some point in their history for whatever reason and if they can find that then they can discredit and destroy you now. It doesn't matter if the reason, say, you said something bad about black people was because you caught a black customer stealing in your store and they accused you of racism to try and deflect and you were just letting off steam after the fact. That you said it, regardless of context, makes you a terrible person.

The only solution is to be a 100% perfect paragon and almost nobody even realizes that they're on trial for that, nevermind is capable of achieving that.

It probably should be... Even I said some bad things about gay people when I was young... And I'm gay! I didn't really know any better when I was a kid. I didn't really understand stuff. But my mom taught me to be respectful. She wouldn't allow me to say bad things. And I learned. But I should get cancel on it just because it was a bad thing I said when I was young... So if you said that, and were taught that was wrong to say. And grew up, and wouldn't say that again, you shouldn't be canceled over it...
