non-sequiturs is one thing but i don't often see him say stuff is that is flat out factually wrong, like "the force awakens is an MCU movie." it would have been different if he had just said "this episode reminds me of TFA" or something.

The stupid thing is I actually feel like hearing so much about how "overrated" Black Panther is led me into watching the movie with lower expectations and then I found it deserving of its acclaim, at least for a 2018 movie anyway. Yeah it was overhyped for its cultural relevance, but let's be honest: most blockbuster movies of the past 20 or so years are overhyped. I also feel like some of the reasons people didn't like it are the reasons I did.

The fun thing is people who don't like the movie often like to bring up black friends of theirs who didn't like it either. As if that proves ANYTHING.

It's more of a where you live kinda thing. So yeah these people who say "well I have some black friends and no one gives a crap" are probably actually being truthful and not making up friends to win an argument, as unfathomable as it is to consider. It's just they probably live in a region where race issues just aren't very important in day to day life for whatever reason.

What If episode 3 was depressing until I got to witness a performance I would never have believed Michael Douglas had in him. Too bad about dictator Loki though.

I listened to several stories of black clubs all seeing it together. To many people it was a race thing.

But it definitely was a very niche race thing, I think it was really important to black people who were already comic book hero fans which is a small subset of a subset

I've also noticed an increasing trend for people to say that Phase 1 of the MCU was best and the only reason critics consistently praise later movies is because they don't want to anger Disney. Even though half of the MCU movies with sub-80% RT scores were made under Disney's watch (and that's NOT counting Iron Man 3 since Paramount was still attached to it for contractual reasons). The MCU has just somehow gotten into a rhythm that keeps pleasing critics and general moviegoers no matter how much some on the Internet want to complain.

Phase One is utterly weak outside of Iron Man 1

Phase Two somewhat improves the average while dropping one of the best with Winter Soldier (although lackluster in its Avengers collab)

Phase Three is chalk full of great unique entries, with some stumbles that aren't really as bad as the other Phase's worst, and then it ends with the biggest Avengers roundup with in two-parter

3 > 2 >1, although I can see swapping 2 & 1 due to Dark World & IM3

4 started with a stumble with Black Widow but Shang-Chi's great and we got the D+ shows which are decent to cool so far.

Captain America is a prime example of the next phases being better than the first...

Avengers 1 was a big event for its time as the ultimate crossover film, and it's certainly better than Ultron. But Infinity War & Endgame absolutely eclipse it, and your average Phase 3 movie easily holds above it.

Yeah, the first Cap movie is generally considered the weakest one. I feel like Iron Man is the only Phase 1 movie that's considered the best in its subseries.

Thor at least gets to hold its head above Dark World, but then Ragnarok comes in as an actual good movie.

Top be fair to Captain America though (personally don't care for First Avenger at all), it is competing with two of the biggest MCU films (with Civil War basically being Avengers 2.5)

I get stretching can look goofy live action but I mean, that's how I know Ms. Marvel. Also maybe they also didn't wanna go through with it if they wanna differentiate her from Mr. Fantastic coming in eventually I guess.

I will say this promo doesn't look bad though aside from not being the original ability... It's just a purple Green Lantern. I'll have to see how it's actually used and hopefully it still at least feels like extending her body with these constructs but *shrug*... Kamala Khan's a fav so this was my most exciting show coming but I can't be help be a little bummed here. Her start using her powers with shapeshifting can't really be touched on with constructs

if she never says embiggen tho we can just stop this right here

Sadly... it looks like Inhuman is completely off the table and I highly doubt she'll be the first mutant (unless you count the WandaVision reveal).... so we're running out of options and please for the love of god do not be tech.

Not the best impressions on Eternals coming out... which I guess is expected, at least for me it's been hard to get too excited, but nonetheless interested to see what story Chloe Zhao wanted to tell as well as the overall mythos expansion on Celestials and possibly giving a bit more on Thanos/Eros...... but then so far the actual main characters of the movie has given me little to be excited from trailers yet and it sounds like Eternals ultimately has too much it wants to tell and for some it's failing to do so effectively.

Hopefully the long runtime at least means they give enough time to properly introduce and get us acquainted with most/all of the new characters. I haven't read any reviews so dunno what people have to say about that aspect.
