58 y/o Johnny Depp claims in an interview that Hollywood is BOYCOTTING him since his much publicized trial that was thrown out in Amber Heard's favour.

He spoke about his position now after his latest film, Minamata was released in the UK where he plays a photojournalist, Eugene Smith who is known fo rhis photographic essays while touring Japan to document the effects of mercury poisoning brought by industrial pollution and corporate greed

Director Andrew Lewis claims MGM is burying the film because of Depp's legal troubles but MGM claims the film is still on release in a future schedule but hasn't set a date yet

Depp says the film deserves to be seen despite his personal isues and said "We looked these people in the eyeballs and promisee we would not b exploitative. The film would be respectful. I believe that we've kept our end of the bargain, but those who came in later should also maintain theirs. Some films touch people, and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things. And for anything..For hollywood's boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation over the last number of years?. But you know, i'm moving towards where i need to go to make all that, to bring things to light"

He lost a libel suit last November against publisher The Sun that alleged he was a wife beater in relation to Amber Herd and lost his appeal in march.

Earlier in August, he won in court where he sought to discover whether Heard made good on her pledge to donate 7 million to charity

Depp has already won the side of conservative men who have been on his side on the divorce trial as viewers have been rating his latest movies with high marks while blasting woke feminists. This despite his controversial remarks on Trump back in 2017 about an "assassination". He also played Trump in a mock against the president in a Funny or Die skit

I think Depp is canceled more because for a while he was one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood yet his films would underperform very often.

So basically hiring Depp was not worth the money when other actors were probably cheaper and put more butts in the seats. He is a great actor but I find his peculiar acting style will work very well in a movie like Edward Scissorhands or Pirates of the Carribean but it will be completely wrong for other films.

Probably, and I wouldn't blame him.

Well, yeah.
But when it's a woman staying in a toxic relationship w/ a psychotic man, society sympathizes with her and wants to help her.

Depp got twitter mob brigaded and canceled for it.

I was never a fan of his (or a hater, just...indifferent), but everything I've seen about this fiasco, it seems like he got a really raw deal. Like, even if he was just as bad as Amber (which I'm skeptical of), he still got treated way worse than she has been by the media.

oh he absolutely got fucked over compared to amber

amber was allowed to keep all of her roles in movies, while everyone wanted to get as far away from depp as possible

and then it turns out that amber was the abuser in the relationship and...nothing at all changed.
