Did you like the game?

How time flies...

I actually like it quite a lot, there are a lot of good things about it, like the presentation, having Maya back as an assistant, the character designs, and some of the cases were surprisingly meaty.

Though the puzzles on Layton's side were simpler than ones in a typical Layton game I feel like. And the twist is...very Layton-like.

(I was inspired to make this topic while watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOSb3kNcEnc)

Wasn't a fan. Everything that's Layton drags the game down.

I think it's grown on me now that I've actually played some Layton games (I hadn't played one yet the first time I played Layton/AA).

L-3 is still legit a top ten AA case.

also sometimes I wonder what kind of game we'd have gotten if they'd stuck to what was in that initial trailer

because that is legit super interesting

edit: it's hard to find one with subtitles now for some reason

Its a very interesting game. I love the Ace Attorney sections and echo that L-3 is a top 10 case. Presenting spells and magic as evidence is a pretty unique twist to Ace Attorney and I like the multiple witnesses. The Layton sections are alright. The puzzles are simple but honestly, I like that. Its also a nice gameplay break from Ace Attorney.

I guess its really the end that bothers me. While I dont mind Layton plots, I just didnt like the main Layton plot of this game. I think a large part of it is that I didnt really care about Espella, Darklaw, or any of that big overarching plot. So when you had to tear down the big mystery, I was just over it. That last case takes a looooong time too.

idk I guess its a 8/10 game that would most likely be a 9 or 9.5 if the ending stuck with me better

completely the opposite for me. I blame "Layton tradition" for the ending anyway.

I haven't finished it (only found a copy recently), but I like it so far. The only thing that bugs me about it is that it feels weird to base logic puzzles around obviously made up and arbitrary 'rules of magic', especially when new rules are suddenly revealed all the time.

It just kind of breaks the immersion that you're solving a mystery rather than solving a deliberately constructed puzzle.

I kind of like that aspect of it because it really feels like the deck is stacked against Phoenix in trials. It makes it more satisfying when he manages to figure out how the rules work and use them to his advantage.

Voted "okay". PW segments could be better overall, in particular it annoys me that the game uses Case 2 as a tutorial for Witch Trials and then throws out the Witch Trial rules for Case 4, but they were still fun. I enjoyed the Layton puzzles also, although not enough to actually seek out a proper Layton game. The endgame plot twist was laughably bad, which is much more enjoyable than being unremarkably bad.
