Was thinking about starting a new comedy.

Is Community worth a watch? Is it really good like The Office or Parks and Rec?

Any other must watch comedies like The Office or Parks and Rec?

Seasons 1-3 is a normal "weird show" if that makes any sense. By season 4 it leans into it too much, in addition to losing their showrunner. The last few seasons are a mess of characters coming and going, plus the combination of shorter seasons and looming threat of cancellation means a lot of storylines never got room to breathe.

I like seasons 1-3 a lot. I don't know how much I can recommend the series as a whole.

I've never seen The Office, and the humor is different than Parks and Rec... but damn it is a good show. The writing is really clever, there's a lot of subtlety and... not so much subtlety to it. There's just a lot of dumb shit, too. Like there's one episode where Abed takes a class analyzing the TV show "Who's the Boss?" and he goes on a crusade to prove objectively who the boss was despite the professor's claims that it was not a literal expression.

Plus Chevy Chase's character was amazing (and offensive as shit).

It's a solid show, but you could really tell early on that they didn't know what to do with Shirley.

You'll also have to suffer The Dean as he eye-rollingly gets more and more screentime as the show progresses.

I wanted to watch Brooklyn 99 but it's on Hulu and I don't have that right now. I have tried to watch it before, and while funny, it doesn't feel like the ones I mentioned.

Forgot about Arrested Development. I saw all of it except the last half of the last season. Don't know what happened because I love it.

I guess I'll give Community a try with a few episodes.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I don't know, I feel like sitcoms are little different from these types of shows. While hilarious in their own right, I find these way funnier. I'll watch endless Friends or Seinfeld, but it's a different type of humor.

Is this like a Michael Scott leaving type thing? As in, the feel changing? While I enjoyed later seasons of the Office, there's obviously something missing.

I liked it, but not as much as the other two. It has a lot of missteps, and ends with a fizzle due to too much of the core ensemble gone

No, it's a "they fired the creator" thing.
Is that what happened?

I was really confused at the quality of the show in the last two seasons, especially that one RV episode that was a total fucking trainwreck. Still enjoyed some of the episodes but it was obviously a different tone.

Community is pretty good but it isn't on the same level as Parks and Rec or The Office. Modern Family is probably better than Community (disclaimer: I'm only on season 5). And Brooklyn 99 is definitely better than Community.

Community is really good. Feel free to disagree, but I feel like to some degree, Community is to mid-2000's sitcoms what It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is to Seinfeld. More of a tame example, in that the cast aren't illiterate trailer trash dirtbags who engage in plots about smoking crack and finding babies in dumpsters (which isn't a bad thing - I love Always Sunny), but the show still pushes a ton of boundaries and it's worth a look.

I would ask you to give the first season a chance, because it's a lot more subdued to begin with. Eventually it sheds its skin and becomes amazing.

But I don't have to make this mistake, and I don't have to stay this way.

It starts off really good and slowly leans too far into the random humor and starts to get tiresome to watch.

Its similar to Offices good seasons, but feels different too.

Brooklyn 99 is ok, but often has too many meh episodes and not the onslaught of amazing one like Office and P&R had.

Parks starts off okay and then gets better and better with each season, it is almost literally the perfect show.

Arrested Development is also an amazing show with very little meh content. Never saw the final season though, as my country doesnt have it on netflix.

I liked what I saw of modern family.
