I got misty-eyed, watching 9S struggle for life with 2B's katana in his gut was heart-wrenching. Then everything after...

Ending D felt like the true ending. C...alright. But D ties directly into E, as well as gives the machines their 'ark'.

E made me happy. Hopefully 2B can and 9S can be happy together. And A2 can move past her trauma.

And maybe the pods will flirt more. 'Cause that shit is adorable.

I remember the word Nier as this crappy game by square enix 10 years ago that had a gimmick of different versions on each console, but then in the last few years everyone has been talking about it again and praising it and I don't know what happened, did it get a sequel that basically did a 180 and improved the original tremendously?

It's hard to explain.

It's an action RPG with a bit of an open world. The gameplay is made by Platinum games, so it has good hack n slash gameplay. But it also has heavy shoot'em up AND bullet hell moments as well. Even regular gameplay has some bullet hell.

You can also choose how to upgrade your characters and what gameplay style you like.

The story is fantastic.

As for the OG Nier, it got remade as the newly released Replicant and got a complete Overhaul to be more similar to Automata. I never played it or the remake though.

2017 was just a really good year for games overall: Divinity Original Sin 2, Hollow Knight, LoZ: BotW, Prey, RE7, South Park: FbW, etc.

Nier: Automata probably had the best soundtrack, though, and the most emotional story, for me.

I'm glad I was at least familiar with the first Nier, since I might have not played through it multiple times otherwise.

Nier Automata, yeah probably. Combat is simpler than those games but the dodge is basically just Bayo's dodge.

The original Nier is fantastic but the combat is clunky as hell. The recent remake (Nier Replicant) is a better way to experience it, the combat is significantly better.

Both games do some fun stuff with perspective and storytelling though that may not be appealing to everyone.

Nier Automata is one of my favourite games of all time. I don't think theres a single thing it does poorly. Overall it's better than the original Nier, even though the original Nier does do some things better IMO

Combat is easier, but also more hectic in a sense. They even have a Witch Time thing called 'overclock' you can get.

My only complaint, is that the cutscenes at times(mostly when characters hold weapons), look too janky because of how fluid the attack animations are. Some stuff, like 2B choking out 9S, 9S dying with 2B's blade in him look fantastic though.

It's still a fucking incredible game.

Them getting their second chance made it all the better. I hope we get a sequel, of sorts, so we can see those bastards who made YoRHa die. Or at least get a happy ending for the trio.

Lol. To be fair, I felt most attached to 9S. His cycle of dying over and over again, knowing 2B will be the one that does it, but his love for her still existing every time. Then when the cycle finally breaks, he sees her die. He learns he has no purpose, his life was just a farce, and...idk. 9S was the most interesting of the cast, in that regard. But I loved 2B too. And her struggles...god I could talk about this damn game forever it feels like lol

A2 wasn't all that special to me imo lol. I liked her, but I didn't feel as attached to her as I did 9S.

God that moment was terrible. I erased his memories.

As they said in the game, machines will always repeat their mistakes. There's hope that Pascal will repeat his 'mistake' again. This time there is no virus, no fucked up machine to ruin everything. There is a chance Pascal can finally, actually, truly live in peace.

It won't bring back the children, it won't solve everything, but it'll be a second chance. Something A2, 9S, and 2B are also getting. :D

Could always stream it with a free trial of PSNow on PC, maybe? It's a fantastic game, and worth.

I didn't really have performance issues with the game on PC, but I acknowledge I'm in the minority of people that just... didn't enjoy the gameplay. The combat didn't click with me like other Platinum games (in contrast I think MGR and Bayo1/2 are some of the best character action games ever made). I also didnt like how all the enemies are the boxy, clunky robots, which makes the slashing seem weirder and less impactful. Nor did I like how many of them attacked with the SHMUP bullets instead of involved melee fighting.

The ranged fire is initially bound on the bumper by the trigger for dodging, so unless you rebind, you can't do the shooting stuff while dodging. The ship combat is there, but I don't really like shmups so much.

One of the most annoying mechanics is how transitional areas, as well as some other places, ambiguously break into 2d sidescrollers. And there's so many invisible walls. It makes the world not very fun to explore.

When did the game click for you. I picked it up like a year ago, played for a bit, but it never quite grabbed me, then something else I wanted to play snagged my attention.

I think I got to the first boss fight (not the one in the games opening, but first boss fight after being able to free roam).

You act like it would have mattered by the time they met up again. 9S at that point was mentally unsound. He'd have killed her regardless, or tried to. At that point, he had lost his everything in life. He was purposeless, and he didn't even have 2B anymore. So killing A2 was his new purpose, considering that machine just died.

Then also factor in the virus ravaging his brain? The end result would have been the same. The only ones you could blame are, maybe, the Pods.

The Pods were doing what they were programmed to, to protect their charges, but overall it's more on them than anyone. But they were acting logically, considering 9S was slowly losing his mind, they couldn't let them meet on the off chance 9S would kill her.

The ending felt like they ran out of plot and villains and the actual ending was poop.

Eve was the only good thing here.

It took me awhile to finally admit it because before then Chrono Trigger was my favorite of all time, but then I thought about it and no game has ever moved me in such a way that Automata did. It took me a over a month to pick up another game.

There a three things I can really nerdout on Automata is one of them. I want to pick up Reincarnation, but I have a big backlog I'm trying to cut down.

It helped massively once I got mirage and the spinning blades.

I didn't realize until halfway through route B that melee attacks pop those bullets too. You can play the ship sections by just meleeing, even. It might be harder, but it's possible.

So those two skills will often cancel out all bullets near you, add on the offensive heal plug-in and you can also get to full HP doing that near them lol.

That boss fight made me think it was hard ha funny weird Japanese game.

The game's story really doesn't 'click' until Route B, which was about 10 hours in for me. Route A is pretty standard at surface level, Route B is Route A again, but with more digging beneath the surface. Route C is where she goes down for real.

The gameplay just clicked for me immediately though lol.

You mean when 9S fell down on the bridge while he yelled "A2, I'll kill you!"? Because, like, she didn't even notice him until he screamed. The moment he screams, he falls down the bridge mid-sentence.

What was she supposed to do? Cup her hand over her mouth and yell ""HEY 2B WAS INFECTED WITH A VIRUS SO I HAD TO KILL HER!" to the android that just recently tried to kill her as he fell down a gigantic chasm?

Afaik, Adam and Eve came into being simply due to the machines seeing androids as a threat that can never really be defeated.

Machines exist to 'defeat the enemy'. If you can't realistically 'defeat the enemy', then what do you do? Make something that can defeat the enemy. What can defeat the enemy? Something on par, but better, than the enemy itself.

Androids were already programmed with prejudices regarding machines, though, so no matter what they would always want to believe machines aren't sentient.

tl;dr: Adam and Eve are simply evolutions.

And the machines believed, that, simply put...

Reincarnation inspired me to play Automata, honestly.

The story in that game is fantastic. The gacha isn't...too bad.

I did spend a little money on it, but not too much. I got 2B, A2, and 9S though. But you can also get free versions of all of them too!

Honestly I ended up going with the third option specifically because I thought the two options given were both letting him down.

Effectively, when you walk away the dialogue involves you telling Pascal that part of living is learning to deal with your decisions, and handing that kind of choice off to somebody else is simply running away from your problems.

The response comes off a little bit cold and uncaring, but I felt like it was the most thematically appropriate for the game because you're telling Pascal that if he really wanted to be more like a human he has to be willing to accept this part of humanity.
