They are tied right now. US has three more Gold medal matches. China has just one. So if China doesnt win that boxing match at worse will be a tie if US somehow loses all three of those matches.

They use silver medals to break ties on the official rankings and Olympics.com, so the US is currently in first.

23 of the 39 golds won were won by Team USA's women.

Our ladies practically saved our asses these Games.

Good for them, always great to see how much ass Jamaica kicks as well despite being thoroughly smaller than its rivals in the sports. Must be cultural influences.

Do you think if Simone Biles didn't drop out, the US would be doing better?

Hard to say. She makes us the favorites in the Team competition for sure. Hard to say with the individual comps.

Lol @ people who thought China was going to win. It's even sadder when you consider China has 4x as many people, a tradition of doping athletes, and practices eugenics. Imagine trying THAT hard and still not coming in first.

And that's not even fucking how they got crushed by the U.S. in medal count.

She didn't drop out, she came back to compete and won a bronze. She dipped out of the team event and they got silver, it was a smart move. She wasn't on her game during that. If you watched the balance beam, she was back in form, was actually really moving. US team was very happy with her performance, chinese team was just excellent this year.

Idk about eugenics. I just know that the one 37 year old chinese dude that won gold in weightlifting grew up poor. Both his parents were farmers. Basically a peasant. Maybe china gave him some super serum vaccine?

Is this referring to those GMO babies that were modified to be resistant to AIDS (and possibly smarter)?

A. Those kids are too young to compete, they're only a few years old.

B. Those modifications likely don't help you in the Olympics much.

C. The scientist who did that was arrested (whether their government actually cares about what he did rather than reacting to the international outrage is debatable).

Their sports programs are extremely rigorous and recruit kids to special sports schools to devote their lives to sport and nothing else, but that's not eugenics.

I think he is referring to the state sponsored doping they did in the 80s and early 90s, but that was extremely normal then. In present only Russia appears to be doing large scale state sponsored doping (that we are aware of).

China's was def doing it but were a bit cleverer about it; they were taking the shroom stuff until quite recently. USA did it in the smaller circles for sure as well.

A lot of people are doping, and a lot aren't.

Didnt read this whole thread, but we already got it. USA has 39 gold and China has 38.

Total:
113 (USA) to 88 (China)

China did great, but we have a decisive win with the silver and bronze medals together.

No I'm referring to legislation they introduced in the 90s that stated they would seek to limit the reproduction of dull or inferior people as part of a public health/family planning initiative, which AFAIK has never been reversed.

A lot of countries have had legislation like that (sterilization of the disabled or mentally ill, happened in the US and many other countries in the past, though not the population limiting one child policy), the current situation in China has just recently changed to allow people to have as many kids as they want (not that people in China want many kids these days due to cost of living and long work hours). However at no point was any of that for the purpose of breeding super athletes.
