Yeah, there's much better and safer cardio out there. Running is the most insanely overrated exercise other than maybe barbell bench press.

I used to run full sprint for the fun of it, just to see how far I could push my body

Now I get tired just imagining it

Smh every time I see people on forums complain about how tired and sore they are, running 2-3 times per week, but wanting to add more days for faster fat loss

But when I suggest they just walk instead of run, and that they can do that 7 days a week, they're just like "nah"

Why is running so bad for us when it is fundamental to our species? Is it just cause we were never designed to live this long?

Also, as much as I dislike running being able to run fast feels pretty great.

Yes, our life expectancy is much greater than it was in the past, significantly past our average years of reproduction.

How in fuck have you two made it to 2021 with these misconceptions about life expectancy intact

Life expectancy is not life span and modern practices have increased life expectancy by virtually eliminating many causes of childhood mortality, so life expectancy (which is an average) went from 30 or so to the high-70s/low-80s it is today thanks to the precipitous drop in young death. It's not like human beings normally die somewhere in their 30s and now we have more time thanks to good ol' science.

Our lifespan has not changed to anywhere near that degree, people in premodern times who survived childhood stood a very good chance to survive to be what we call senior citizens today.

I almost started to explain, from an evolutionary perspective, what my post meant. But your confidently incorrect attitude tells me it would just lead to me wasting my time

humans are built to be ok to good at sprinting

no mammals are really cut out for endurance running though. The people that do it regularly have to deal with a lot of damage to their body and joints, and its not all that uncommon for a runner to just drop dead.

Ever talk to someone the day after they run a marathon? They pretty much cant move

I thought that wasn't true of humans, we were built to run down our prey over the course of miles until the prey was exhausted. We lost our hair so we could sweat and other stuff like that.

I loathe running. It feels like my head is pounding in my school, up and down, up and down. Never been a fan, even though I was always at least ahead of the middle of the pack in school. I love love love biking though. It's smooth, and the scenery comes at you at a better rate. Plus you might actually get somewhere in a decent bit of time. And your knees won't be fucked.

Did you guys know that switching to a swimming exercise regimen has similar effects on your heart strength to spending time in space?

If a healthy person that did cardio regularly switched to only doing cardio through swimming their heart would weaken. No longer having to work against gravity during the cardio causes the heart to weaken.

Of course if you are going from no cardio to swimming you'll see improvements, this is for those that are already in shape.

Which means you will never much of a runner. If you run for a long time, you will eventually be addicted to the opiates you get from running and will feel like total shit if you try to quit, not that you would want to. I pretty much run an 45 minutes a day 7 days a week. I rarely take a day off running and have been doing this for close to 15 years
