I'm not denying that systemic racism is real. I know it is and it's abhorrent but if cops and judges treated minorities like actual people during arrests/trials wouldn't it eliminate (or at the very least, minimize) the racism in the system? Like how there are many old ridiculous laws still on the books but no one is going arrest you for them

Maybe that wouldn't help and I'm wrong thinking that if all cops and judges weren't racist that the systemic racism would become a non issue because no one would be taking advantage of it

This is the reason All Cops Are Bastards. It's not because they personally are bad people, but because they are cops--representatives of an oppressive system. They can still individually do good things (I would cite the four officers who testified on the Capitol Insurrection earlier this week as an example), but they are nonetheless agents of a system that has been constructed over hundreds of years to protect* property, favor Whites, and oppress people of color.

*Blacks, being considered property at the time, were not well protected. But the wealth of the masters was protected!

Another gripe: people just buy into this shit just so they have an excuse to shit on white people. It enables actual racists to push their own agenda. If you can believe that racists push for voting laws for their own racist motives, then this statement isn't that far a stretch.

Police are trained to escalate and use force. They are trained that they can die at any minute, and it's either them or the person they're pursuing/subduing/questioning/detaining/arresting. Individual actors cannot change the system, nor can they navigate it without becoming complicit in it.

I feel like a lot of good conservatives believe that because they hear the left calling the right racist and think "I'm not racist and I'm a conservative so clearly they are just assholes bringing in race for no reason" without realizing its not about them, just the racist asshole conservatives. No, but it forms the basis for how I engage with the subject. Since 5th grade I have built on that premise with new data points. I'm open to discussing which definition for racism holds a stronger position. Prejudice vs discrimination, thought vs action. As I see it the discrimination (or prejudice) is the issue. The alternate definition seems to me to be a way to excuse prejudice on the part of certain people in service of a racial agenda.

I know that one quote is something I agree with. I see more focus being placed on skin color than content of character when discussion of social issues come up. I'm not saying he wanted people to disregard race entirely. I am not a scholar in this matter nor do I claim to be. I don't think I have to know whether MLK was a racial indentarian or opposed them to recognize that he had some good ideas.

The nefariousness of systemic racism is it does not depend upon individuals to be overtly, willfully racist.

I think this ties into something you said earlier.

If this true of racists influencing government to corrupt it then what about decent people being able to influence government in opposite ways?
I don't deny there were bad people in power. Instead my understanding of anti-racism is that it denies there were ever any good people in power who could in turn right the system.

He'll just do some handwaving that he doesn't believe it is that way. You never have to believe in change if you don't think anything is wrong in the first place. Your options are basically come to grips that you might have been racist, that you were duped in thinking everything was fine, or bury your head in the sand.

I don't know why people are so resistant to it. It's better to have been racist or wrong about things and reform yourself than to always stay ignorant if the conversation gets uncomfortable.

Here's a good example. The parameters you set are that a person does not believe the premise is true. From their perspective everyone already receives equal treatment. Efforts to change this will result in some being treated better or worse than others. Thus defeating the goal of equality.

Ive read quite a few large textbooks and academic papers and policy reports etcs about CRT (my work during my masters program was in education policy and policy analysis). I get so frustrated with CRT being called racist in the news the way it is especially here in Texas.
