well then correct me, what did New Vegas do to top that trio?

Identical engine to 3 but more buggy, incredibly boring map, rushed design on every level, a story about a gang that dresses like elvis for no reason and another just dresses like Roman's for no reason and has nonsensical philosophies that game openly acknowledges makes no sense when relevant but yet pretends Is somehow super successful , arguably the least interesting player character in a of RPG history

Same quest design as the other games
No interesting weapons
Same companion system only inferior to 4 and OW

Zero new concepts or innovations

What did it did do better?

I swear people only pretend NV is a masterpiece because Bethesda didn't make it

If tomorrow Bethesda revealed they made NV and Obsidian made 3, you'd 180 so fast

I've only played the first 4 so far, but so far Mega Man X is the best game in that entire series and it might end up being the best X game outright. To that end, it might be one of the finest run-and-gun type games ever made.

It evolved the Mega Man formula in a handful of ways, such as the boss gauntlet changing from the standard Mega Man warp room to a series of encounters within a continuous action setpiece of a level, which later games reneged on for the sake of maintaining the aforementioned formula.

2020 was the first time I got to sit down with a controller and play Mega Man X, and it was the first time I ever agreed with the hype. Mega Man X has aged like wine, keeping up with an entire industry of indie successors and possibly rising above every other entry in its home series. And it's held onto that reputation for almost thirty years.

I haven't played the last half of the X series, but as it stands, Mega Man X hasn't been topped by any of the games that followed it - not in its own series, and I would argue not even within its own genre.

Zero is amazing, but I can see some people being turned off by its decision to gate getting boss weapons behind maintaining an S rank, to the point where doing poorly enough in the first few missions or using too many elves basically locks you out of them for the entire game.

I haven't played Zero yet either, at least not to such a serious degree. I gave it a try as a teenager but I didn't take to it.

Once I finish the X series I'm thinking of getting the Z legacy collection, though. From what I hear though, the original Z game is incredibly unforgiving and kind of obtuse with its checkpoints, saving and mechanics. But that's neither here nor there.
