They're not, although it's undeniable that something does attract bad owners to them more than other breeds. Still, there are countless examples of other breeds also showing aggression due to bad training (or lack of training).

They arent, they just the ones sensationalized by media. My pit mix was attacked by a yellow lab, and never fought back.

A huge part of it is people want an aggressive dog, for the aggression and dont understand how dogs actually work. I'm an actual dog trainer and trained my Pit/Malinois breed.

Every pitbull Ive known was sweet and playful. They really do come off as giant babies. Yeah, they are strong and can knock someone over if not disciplined, but they arent raging demons like TV makes them out to be. They are trained to be that way.

I wouldn't say "trained" necessarily. But it's like the difference of parenting a kid and just laughing when they push and punch other kids or telling them it's not something you're suppose to do. Kids and puppies are all dicks lol. It's up to us to teach them about empathy as they mature. If you never tell your kid to stop biting their sister, they're not gonna stop. Which is funny that it just occured to me that a lot of humans literally have to be taught not to bite too lol.

Most pits are agreeable and sweet, but then you got this entire segment of the population who are "tough" that want to own them to intimidate others

Self fulfilling prophecy. They do require a lot of work, and I mean a lot. Their reputation as a tough/mean dog attracts people who want that, who typically aren't the best sort.

I'm not actual trainer, just good with dogs. I've got two Akitas that have a kinda bad rep too, but I have them because I caught a relative who owned them being... Abusive to put it lightly. They went from stubborn and mean to... Kinda wimpy within a year tbh, now have had em for 6. I still wouldn't leave them alone with anyone else besides me due to their past, even though now they spend their days lounging on an old couch and hiding under my PC desk in bad weather lol.

Tried to do the same with a pit once too, help a friend with his. Figured it was all reputation, and still have scars on my foot/leg. No permanent damage though. Dunno what set it off.

I don't have anything against the breed, but they obviously require a very skilled owner, which... Is not the sort you usually see with them.

Trust me, any dog can actually injure a person if they want to, or even kill. Just a matter of how much effort they have to put in. That's why it pisses me off to see all these little untrained dogs.

Cops are humans that willfully choose that job and can call out the bad seeds if they wanted to but don't.

Pitbulls are dogs that cannot help the fact that they are what they are, and thus require people to raise them correctly and be responsible for them. Not comparable

Pit bulls are more likely to have bad owners because they have a reputation as being vicious guard dogs, so in poverty-stricken areas its common for dumb men to get a pit bull and leave it chained to a post in their yard, which is abuse and leads them to violent behavior. Lots of rescued pits come from abusive owners (possibly dog fighting), and thus are more likely to display violent behavior.

So pit bulls are basically wild animals who follow their aggressive natural instincts?

It's a fad dog. When I was younger it was Rottweilers. And ive physically seen people train em to be mean and aggressive. Most people with rotts though I noticed didnt keep an in the house. Probably cause they are pretty damn big.

So yeah probably has a lot to do with the caliber of people attracted to owning one. I've had 2 but I didn't ask for either they where just sorta dropped on me.

I'm not? I literally said I saw people go out of their way to make em mean. It was the tough guy fad dog like pits are today. They got this notion the dog will fight to protect the house if they make it mean. Honestly if hearing a big dog bark and growl alone doesnt turn away a would be thief the dog likely isnt gonna stop him period

Admittedly, I *am* rather cautious/distrustful of all the breeds named in that image, so I know I'm not helping with the negative stereotypes. But at the same time, I'm not picking on pitbulls specifically, and I don't buy it when someone else tries to make them out to be the *only* breed I should be weary about.

The opposite actually. Their bulldog ancestors were bred to be strong and aggressive by humans so they would be useful for bull/bear-baiting and later those were bred with terriers so that they would be strong, aggressive and agile for dog fighting.

It sucks because pitbulls were bred by humans, for human purposes, but now that those purposes are illegal, the aggression and strength weve specifically bred into them have made them inconvenient for modern living (when compared to other breeds) without a lot of TLC.

I will say that of the six people I know who currently own a pit bull or used to own a pit bull, only one of them has actually trained theirs and its one of the most well behaved dogs ever and the owner is really successful. Masters degree, six figure job, etc

The other five are basically struggling to live and just got theirs because they wanted a tough guard dog for their shitty apartments that get broken into all the time and dont train them at all. One of them destroyed one of my new shoeswith my foot still in it lol

completely anecdotal evidence of course. Just thought it was interesting that at least in my experience the they just need a good owner excuse holds up
