I actually liked that film quite a bit, and I'd still say you're out of your Vulcan mind.

Hell, I liked Spider-Man 2 more than the first one, and I still wouldn't rate it above at least half the MCU films.

I think people have been conditioned to overrate the nostalgia effect because Spidey 1 and 2 are better than quite a few of the MCU movies. Its like you all are afraid to be allowed to like what you like. I mean it came out a minute ago I guess my judgement is clouded by those rose hued 2000s haha.

What a moronic notion. Its literally more likely to you that people are lying to themselves about what they themselves enjoy for some nebulous reason rather than it just being that some people have different opinions about things.

I will say this, the more I re-watch the Spider-Man films the less impressed I am with Tobey he really doesn't play the role well at all and he act likes Peter Parker is some very emotional and insecure person. I think that works fine when playing the character in the first movie but, the only time he changes the way he plays Peter Parker is when he gets the symbiote in the 3rd movie.

Dunst also really fails as MJ and she really shouldn't have been cast as the character.

Shit the only reason the trilogy works at all is due to great villain casting for the most part.

The funny thing about Dunst is that she's a natural blonde IIRC and they cast her as MJ, but made her personality much closer to Gwen and Liz.

Then they introduce Gwen in 3, played by a natural redhead, but have her be a much more outgoing and flirty character (who also does modeling, lol).

Raimi clearly had a lot of nostalgia for the 60s and 70s comics.

The movie would have been considered pretty good if they just cut out the Venom shit that Raimi didn't want in the film anyways. I actually really like Venmon and Carnage and even I found that the worst part of the 3rd movie by far.

Well, he's also openly admitted it.

It's also why he was so against having Venom in Spider-Man 3 - no matter how popular the character might be with 90s kids, he didn't really fit with the era of the character Raimi enjoyed or the vibe he was going for. Which is why he mostly half-assed everything to do with the character in what almost seems to be a deliberate "fuck you" aimed squarely at studio interference.

Raimi basically wanted Silver Age Spider-Man, and the studio wanted to cram in a Dark Age character. It's not really a good fit.

its a good movie but the first one has not aged well

way too many scenes of spidey and green goblin having dialogues with each other on rooftops while they just sort of tilt their unmoving masked faces at one another

The second is a good superhero movie but theyve also come a long way since then

parts of it are extremely good. I think the thing it's missing though, that a lot of comic book movies miss, is that it doesn't have enough Spider-Man. in fact you could almost say that Spider-Man as a character is not even in the movie, there's only Peter Parker.

The only thing that I didn't like about Raimi's Spidey 1 was that, at the end, Spidey gets the girl. In the comics, Spidey NEVER gets the girl, which is, to me, one of Spidey's more endearing qualities since he's more of a working class hero than Captain America or any of the others in the MCU, with the possible exception of Black Widow and/or the Guardians of the Galaxy.

he doesnt get the girl at the end of 1. He walks away from her and basically says he doesnt love her

at the end of 2, though. She shows up after running out on her wedding

I used to describe it as the Raimi movies are basically Peter Parker (and early 60's Peter Parker at that) but not really Spider-Man, whereas Garfield is putting all his energy into being Spider-Man and he's not really being Peter Parker at all.

I think the MCU does a much better job of reconciling the two halves, even if people have issues with it for other reasons. I easily consider it the best of the three overall, though (not counting animated Spider-Men in the mix).

I think all this is pretty common actually.

Tobey was a good Parker, Garfield a good Spider-Man, but only Holland has been the most accurate at being both. I still think he could do even better though.

I'm actually glad Raimi did it that way. IMO a good Spider-Man story should be about Peter as much or more than about Spider-Man. I think it could have been balanced better, though, for the sake of pacing.

This isn't really true. He's had plenty of girl troubles over the years of course, but he's "gotten the girl" plenty of times. I mean, he was married to MJ for 20 years in the comics.
