But cartoony doesn't equal bad. I enjoyed it but I'm biased because I much prefer the more grounded action (relatively) compared to the full superhero showy powers and special effects bonanza. The Captain America movies are still my favourite. The effects that were there were hilariously bad at times though. Somehow that worked because the overall vibe was very campy. This whole thing was like an old school campy Bond flick before he got all serious with Craig. The one downside was the villains were horrible. One was barely a character (Taskmaster) though it was explained why. You could not have had them there at all and nothing would change. Which makes me think they'll be back so they can be developed. He's supposed to be a somewhat tragic figure who copes via humor, slowly morphing into a harder, darker threat. He's pretty dark in Thor 2, he has more serious or intimidating moments in Avengers than he does comedic ones (even if stuff like "Puny God!" is all people meme about), and really only starts to shade into comedy outweighing everything else in Ragnarok, but that's because Ragnarok is played much more like a comedy than almost anything else. Pretty much everyone is snarky and a lot of the action is played for laughs (at least until the end). He's really only full-on comedic in the new series (where he's the butt-monkey protagonist and not the villain).
