Okay, so due to the nature of Fire Emblem Fates as a game we are doing something differently today. Rate each of the three components of Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations) separately, and give an overall score. You do not need to rate all of them or do the overall score, you can rate as many as you want, and the overall score does not need to be an average.

Ironically, I'd score the DLC - either one - much higher, like maybe a 7-8. Birthright is boring and bland but while in theory I'm down with the concept of Conquest the execution is just... not good. And then Revelations basically takes that as a personal challenge.

Wow. Quite concerning to see such low scores for these games. Fire Emblem Fates was one of those games I was waiting to play when I have to quarantine in about 2 weeks.

What is exactly so bad about the stories in these games?

I have only played Conquest, but 3.5. The real issue is that it was an enormous waste of potential. Its not terrible.

The gameplay is good enough to make up for it, at least in Conquest. A lesser Fire Emblem game is still a Fire Emblem game.

Well to be fair this topic is specifically about the stories which is by far the worst aspect of Fates. I think it stems from the fact that they wanted to make three different versions.

Conquest - 2

It is almost impressive how awful this story is, and I'm not one who usually hates on these things. There's no consistent characterisation from anyone. Everybody is a complete idiot. None of the dialogue feels natural or interesting. The protagonist has very little character of their own. The game seems to have no real interest in exploring any kind of themes or logical narrative progression, it just stumbles from one setpiece to the next whether it makes sense or not.

The set-up- being on the 'bad guy' side and learning to deal with that- is really good, but they do absolutely nothing with it! They remove all notion of moral complexity by making the villain so hilariously one-dimensional. It is genuinely baffling to me how they made this thing so bad, there is very little narrative throughline and no cohesion whatsoever. Add to that most of the characters being unlikable or one-note, and there is next to nothing this game has going for it as far as writing is concerned. The relationship-building side of things, despite being so prominent, feels so incredibly out of place and poorly written that it hurts the whole cast even more.

There's some nice presentation here and there, but it all feels so hollow. A thoroughly disappointing story.

Yep. I loved the story concept, but it went nowhere. They should've gone the Tales of Berseria route and committed to antiheroes being antiheroes.

Yeah Andromeda's writing flaws are that it's generic and uninteresting, not that it's a ridiculously awful story. It at least gets from point A to point B in a logical way, which is far more than Fates can say!

I'm a big Fire Emblem: Fates fan. Conquest is probably my favorite Fire Emblem.

The story is definitely not the reason why.

Inspired: Marche's actions were driven by a deep-seated self-loathing that were eventually actualized by the nature of the dream world making their desires real and reflected the ultimate expression of self-denial and destruction - Marche was the victim.

I read something a while back that reviewed the script for Fates was incomplete, so the final product isn't actually final. It's always a shame when things are rushed to production because the cash grab is so much more important than releasing an actual complete product. Now we'll never know what could have been. I'm sure the story would be a lot better otherwise

Andromeda is not that bad. Its just boring. The issue with that game was all the glitches and SJW designers admittedly making the characters ugly by design to avoid the male gaze. Literal actual quote. These are joyless morons.

If you want to ruin your companys reputation, hire as many woke liberals as possible and just wait.
