BC had spots that were literally hotter then Arizonas peak for this summer. And unlike AZ not all of our houses/apartments come with swimming pools and AC units.

This.
Homeless heat-related deaths in Portland won't be known until the corpses start to stink and bloat sometime next week. Even then, someone has to wonder what that smell is, and bother to investigate instead of just moving on.

This could be a factor too. A lot of places have opened up cooling shelters or at least have trailer units with a buncha ac units in them for homeless people to cool down at.

Because they were unhoused, because of the housing crisis combined with municipalities not caring about homeless people.

In what sense?

What does the government have to do with this? If you mean covid you're late with the ref. Woulda been on point not so long ago.

A majority of the deaths were elderly people who didn't have ac because they've never needed it this badly before.

The deaths are primarily in places where 30 would be hot during the peak of summer... its not even the hottest places where most deaths are occurring, its the places that are typically like 25 degrees or less this time of year.

Yeah man the government contacted Mother Nature and told her to crank the heat to kill off all the old people!

Not sure why Im expecting anything intelligent from a Holocaust denier though.

Around here they do that for the elderly too because they may not have AC and are more susceptible to have complications because of the heat.

government has failed the people of BC in many senses. I would imagine the majority of the deaths due to the heat are seniors who are crammed into aging retirement homes with nickle and dime management who would rather risk death than invest in an AC. The abhorrent state of retirement homes was an issue during the first wave of COVID as well. There is no way any sensible government should be allowing homes for senior citizens to be run that way. Many generations of government have failed in that regards.

I was also shocked by the sparsity of municipal or province run cooling stations. I know many were only open from like 1 pm to 6 pm when the heat was awful before and after. Libraries and community centres etc were only allowing timed drop in. Many times the organization were outsourced to charities or volunteer groups who performed admirably, but this was a fucking emergency situation and the different levels of government sat on their asses.

Also BC ambulance services is a chaotic shitshow and they were overwhelmed. Some of the stories out there from the last weekend are horrific, stuff like someone being told they have a better chance of getting themselves to a hospital during a health emergency than an ambulance coming by. I read a story of one guy who made his way to a fire station because the ambulance would have taken too long and died literally on the pavement outside.

And to top it off our premier said the day after that fatalities are "a part of life". I generally support the party in power right now but IMO heads need to roll for this atrocity.
