I mean it looks fine. But why not use the latest and best versions they have? An example they use if FF1 and all the different versions, to me the PSP version looks the best with the PS1 being second. The one they are going to release doesn't look better than either of those.

And I get they probably want to have all the games at their most "basic" form, but why?

We don't know for certain that these will be the most basic versions of the game.

Idk the idea of buying these games individually is off-putting, just bundle them together and sell it for 30 bucks

True. I probably used the wrong word there. They are using what looks like the original sprites from when each game was individually launched but just upgraded a little.

As far as "basic version", if FF4 doesn't have The After Years I for sure won't be buying.

Well, they're also gonna be on Steam. Maybe they'll end up doing a bundle sale at some point when they're all released.

TAY is a separate game so it definitely won't. The PSP version is actually a collection of 3 games.

This is my projection:

1. PS1 or PSP
2. PSP
3. NES
4. GBA
5. GBA
6. GBA

And that's why a $30 bundle is completely non-viable.

SE usually charges like $10-$15 for games like this on mobile. They mention that these will be released one at a time. I wouldn't be surprised if it's $10 a pop with a $60 collection coming to consoles when they're all out.

PC will eventually have a bundle one way or another. Either Humble, Fanatical, or just a steam special.

Ask people to spend $30 on a mobile game and it's a harder decision than mortgaging a house.

They look good, I know some people are saying the stuff looks washed out, but it could be they're trying to emulate the glow from CRT sets. Everything would look a bit brighter by default.

They are banking on people buying at least 2 of these, maybe 3 or more. Which is way more lucrative than a bundle. And then they can still sell the bundle on Steam later on.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for yet another port of these games. A slight graphical update? Not worth it.

Exactly. I already have 1, 5, and 6 on mobile.

Would I like them with better pixel art? Sure.
Am I paying $40+ for it? Hell no.

They obviously wanted a fairly cohesive look through all of them. From the comparisons at the bottom, these appear to be for the most part updates to the GBA versions. Which means only III would need to be made at all from scratch.

S-E recently did an excellent remaster for SaGa Frontier. Besides updated graphics, changes include:

• Improved UI showing a lot more information about abilities and equipment, most notably all of the different defense ratings for armor/accessories and the damage types associated with attack abilities
• The ability to fast forward at 2x or 3x in battles, and on the overworld, with easy controls for switching between speeds
• Many, many many more save slots
• Unlimited room for character recruitment
• Various bug fixes
• Updated translations (mostly for the better although some of the changes are questionable)
• Autosaves on top of the normal and quick saves that the original game had
• New Game+ with highly customizable choices for what carries over
• Restored content that was cut from the original release AND the ability to play without this content

I don't necessarily expect the last two, but if they include most of the other features in these pixel remasters then I can see them being worth $10-$15 each.

Cant wait to play these on PS4. Wait.

Eh. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Tons of Square mobile games have never come to console. AFAIK Mobile is STILL the only way to play the Valkyrie Profile remaster.

You know, having a 2D version of 3, in English, legally, is pretty cool. I was always sort of ambivalent on that chibi-esque, Bravely Default 3D style. Its like FF9 but with half the personality. >_>

I was a Dragon Quest fan growing up, I never touched the original FFs until 7 came along. This might be a good chance to go back and see what I missed.
