I keep meaning to post more of the minis I've painted. Here's the Spellweaver from Gloomhaven. For this one, I wanted to try technique called Object Source Lighting (OSL). The idea is, if a character is holding a lantern or some kind of light source, you can paint the mini such that it looks like the light is on the character. For the Spellweaver, since I painted her with a cool ice ball in one hand and a fireball in the other, I wanted to try painting her in a way that made it look like each side had the proper cool/hot light on her.

The end result is pretty decent I say. Probably overdid it on the lighting, you lose a bit of the mini's details I think. But overall I'm pretty happy with it.

No idea the character but way to finish with a great one! Decided to delete my cricut rant, but really like the fat princess one as well.

Thanks all. Here's something slightly different, and might be a stretch for this topic lol. But anyway, a while ago I bought this action figure of Goldar from Power Rangers. And while I liked the overall design of it, it wasn't quite... gold enough for me. There was a lot of good detail, but the finish of the figure left at lot to be desired IMO. So I decided to try to repaint it to give it a better look. Here's how it started:



And here's how it looked after the first basecoat of gold:


And here's after more gold detail, and a nice wash. I think this came out looking really good, and in person you can REALLY see the difference in detail. The golds are more apparent, and the wash mades the details of the figure really pop:

Definitely an improvement!

I use this stuff called 'Rub n Buff' when going for a metallic look on plastic. Comes in a little tube and I dab a bit on a rag and just rub it into the surface:

Finished the sprites for the VN I plan to make. Still have to do backgrounds and stills, though.

So I'm not in too good of a place right now

My external hard drive stopped working, and even though it's still under warranty, the company that makes it doesn't cover data recovery. So I paid $75 for a data recovery device only to find out that almost every file is corrupted and can't be saved.

So in addition to wasting all that money, I've also lost the files for most of my art, all the Photoshop files for a card game I'd been working on, all of the music I was working on, in addition to who knows what else was on there.

It'll probably be a while before I bother with anything creative again

Damn sorry to hear, that sucks would be an understatement. Hard not to feel gutted after losing your work like that.

I had a similar thing happen a few years back and started using One Drive to help keep things backed up.

I've tried using One Drive, but it slows down my computer way too much to use

Understandable. So sorry to hear this. Anyone who does creative digital things would feel similarly gutted.

Hope the healing process comes around in time and that you're able to get back in the groove again someday. Your work is quality.

I painted my very first Space Marine! Looks better in person, photos show all the little errors you cant see in real life etc. etc., but despite all that I really thing this came out well! I'll need to paint the other ones I have soon.

btw, if anyone has suggestions for this project, let me know! Unlike the original one there's no set cast, I'm just drawing characters that I'd want and maybe expect to see. Only limitation is that I'm sticking to characters strictly from Sony/Playstation-owned games/franchises (at least for now) so no like Spyro/Crash and stuff
