I haven't played FF7R, what makes Stamp more of a character than other in-universe fictional characters like, say, Maria and Draco from VI's opera, or Marcus and Cornelia from I Want To Be Your Canary?

Id say the difference is that one is a cartoon character treated as a popular mascot rather than a random play character being played by an actor.

There is no dog 'playing' Stamp. He is just an in game cartoon.

In the other cases you would have to seperate the character from the actor playing them.

Stamp is a fun meta question if nothing else. Hes a fictional character in an already fictional world.

If there was a contest in our world, of real people, would Ronald McDonald be allowed? Or Calvin from Calvin and Hobbs?

if so, then I believe Stamp should be allowed, if not, then no. My thoughts on it.

No it was written by Lord Avon long before the start of the story. My guess is they were assigning parts and Marcus just said oh I might as well play Marcus. It's possible he was even named after the character as it's a famous play!

Alright, so after spending most of the day going back and forth on the issue, I've decided that, at least for this contest, Stamp is not eligible. While the game may reference Stamp appearing in cartoons and movies, at the end of the day, the only things that actually appear are drawings of a dog. No cartoon, no movie footage, not even a person wearing a Stamp costume, just... still images.

At some later point, I would be perfectly willing to re-open this debate, but the waning hours of the nomination period simply aren't the time for it.

At least my reasoning. Because hes not a character in the FF universe. Hes a fictional character in the FF Universe. He doesnt exist as a real person/animal like eveyeone else.
