The Intergrade apparently adds some extra scenes that confirm the wild bullshit that FF7R was teasing.

At any rate, there's no way they can do that aforementioned wild ass plot twist without completely destroying Cloud's character...which they might just do, let's be real.

Okay, I've seen the Intergrade ending, so now I'm positive that the Zack ending is an alternate timeline. Here's why I think that: The church doesn't have a hole in its roof, at least from this angle. Zack also has the Buster Sword. People crying and sad in the church implies a funeral, and the flowers inside are wilted.

So this means that in Zack's timeline, Aerith is dead. How, we don't know yet.

Also, fucking "Weird, my stomach's in knots" from Aerith. That's where she got stabbed through in the original.

Somewhat related as well, Zack's voice actor sounds much better now. I wasn't sure of it at the end of the original FFVIIR. Changed voice direction maybe?

Ducktales literally has remastered in the title and its a perfect example on how to do a remake that stays faithful to the original game, while filling in gaps with new material thats entertaining in its own right.

FF7 isnt a remake. Its the gaming equivalent of the Evangelion rebuilds lol.

Oh yeah, the old tested "creative" way of alternative timelines and parallel universes, the " we started this story, but have no outlines to how we end it" method, basically make it as you go (like a soap opera).

If a story branch reaches a dead end, or another story possibility seems popular, we get to milk it more, just make a portal open and switch to the other continuity, problem solved !

I don't have a problem with them changing shit, as long as the original game still exists and is the canonical version of events. I'd rather they do something they're artistically invested in instead of forcing themselves to expensively 1:1 remake a game that they have no interest in remaking.

That being said, the idea they seem to be artistically invested in just isn't very good and it seems like they just want to save their favourite characters.

Especially since it's also taking crisis core and advent children and dirge of cerberus all into it in its art style. It'll be one long complete FF7.

Exactly, I never had much concern for the prequels/sequels to FF7, but then I heard about how that one was going to incorporate them and now I find myself a bit more willing to see how it works out. (A playable Advent Children in particular is going to be interesting to pull off.)

Resident Evil 2/3 being remakes didnt stop it from retaining the same story, more or less. Same with the remakes of earlier Final Fantasy games.

Because some of yall might think Im a hating-ass hater, I do appreciate the risks theyre taking here; admittedly a timeline where Zack and Aerith live is very tempting. However, that would take away from what made the first game and Crisis Core that much more meaningful while also completely destroying Clouds original motivation for much of the early game, and the fact that we hit so many major story beats in the Midgar alone (fighting Sephiroth, most of Shinra, seeing nearly all the party members), it makes me wonder if they might have done it just to raise the stakes a little more. However, if theyre going for a same fate, different time/place theme, then Id love to see it.

But no, they wanted a game they knew and love, and naturally SE took advantage of that to turn it into their new Kingdom Hearts series in terms of lore and inconsistent release schedule

As of right now, it looks like Zack is alive in an alternate timeline due to him having the Buster Sword and the Sector 7 Plate still being up. It also seemed like Aerith is already dead when he entered the church looking for her. If Stamp is a terrier in the next part of the Remake, then Zack is in the same timeline as Cloud and everyone else. When Yuffie is walking around Sector 7 Slums, theres a segment where a teacher is telling a story to children about Stamp and hes still a hound.

The writers definitely want people to pay extra attention to the small details here.

I think a lot of people have the same problem as I do and its hard to put into words, but basically, I just hate everything theyve done related to Final Fantasy 7 that isnt the original Final Fantasy 7. Its a COMPLETELY different tone that conflicts heavily with the source material, in my opinion.

Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core....it all plays out as teenage fanfiction to me.

The only way Sephiroth will truly be defeated is if Cloud dies. My guess is that at the end of all this it will be Cloud, not Aerith.

It was less about it being a reveal and more what they outright confirmed, which is Zack being alive and well

I still think Aerith is timeline aware along with Seph, and they both know that Seph killing Aerith is actually what screws his plan over in the original game, because Holy fails but she's in the lifestream to control it and stop Meteor.

So I still push my dumb idea of a wacky minigame or plot point that Seph actively has to protect Aerith, who is doing all manner of things to try to off herself.

For a more serious note, I'm most curious about the version of Seph that appears at the end that specifically was pointed out in the Ultimania to use a pronoun in Japanese that he only used prior to the Nibelheim incident. If it's some kind of pre-crazy Seph trying to right things that might be interesting, he was a decent dude before he went batshit crazy.

Well Part 2's development is said to be going well, so for them to suddenly cancel it would be weird.

But I think you're overestimating what people who enjoyed the Midgar part would do if the rest of the project was cancelled. I guarantee NOBODY would be happy with that outcome. They dug themselves a hole and the only way to get out of it would be to finish the project.
