But only in Sword. My L50s team in Shield is still sitting outside the first gym.

These games were too easy.

Yeah, it honestly pissed me off how mindless they made it. I thought they were heading in a decent direction with the Totem battles/final story boss (Of SuMo, fuck USUMs final battle)

I seriously took down every single one of the team leaders monsters in one hit. If I didnt already know they wanted the games easier to more easily get children to finish the game (and then beg their parents for merch) I wouldve honestly thought they didnt playtest their game.

Not that they even cared about that much with things like battle backgrounds changing between battles even though you were in the same spot as before

I nuzlock'd my first playthrough of SwSh and didn't think they were all that easy.

Then I did a solo Farfetch'd run and realized they are easy as fuck lol. I think the closest I ever came to losing the run was to Beauty Anita at the beginning of Route 6 (she has a Clefairy and a Clefable).

Its by far the worst mainline Pokmon game, so you must have a hard time dealing

I thought the difficulty setting in Black/White 2 was a step in the right direction (execution could still be improved). No one is expecting SMT difficulty from Pokemon games but it would be nice to feel like you're doing more than just going through the motions until you become champion

I never called them horrible or anything, but the total lack of challenge makes it boring. I only do the single player stuff, can't just battle other people when I want a chance to lose.

I mean, idk how you normally play the games, but none of them are difficult if you allow yourself to over-level. And SwSh really lets you over-level, especially in the early game. From the start of the game to gym 6 if you ONLY fight trainers you'll get enough XP to have all your mons be more than 10 levels over the gym leader. You have to actively avoid fights to make it any kind of challenge.

Which sucks, and could be called bad game design, but it's a kid's game and yadda yadda blah blah blah.

I think its quite an improvement over the previous gen especially with the DLC. That said it's not great. Pokemon games haven't been very good for years. About the difficulty thing people will tell you these games were always easy, defending shitty GameFreak. What they won't answer is why GF are going out of their way to make them even easier. We already got the answer: Junichi Masuda doesn't think much of modern children. Maybe he's not wrong in that they don't have the thinking skills or patience of previous gens. They're the smartphone generation. As such these games are being made to be as mind numbingly easy as possible.

Pokemon is not, and will never be 'challenging'. They are games targeted towards children.

Judg, why are you being a reply guy for fucking pokemon? If people generally say they have a problem with a boss, that means the boss is difficult, and Whitney is no exception.

I honestly thought you were joking about getting upset when people criticize the franchise.

Imagine getting your britches in a knot because someone criticized a thing you did not contribute towards or put work into in any way.

I like Pokemon and it contributed to a large portion of my childhood. It is literally one of the two or three game series I give any shits about anymore. Literally every series from my Childhood has been driven into the crowd by people who do not like things I like, trying to target audiences I'm not part of. Pokemon is the ONE series that hasn't done this yet.

He's wrong anyways because I already called out the GameFreak shills and why their "it was always easy" excuse doesn't work. Its already been explained by the powers that be why these games are dumbed down even MORE.

Technically I haven't played the whole thing, but it didn't feel as bad as BW from what little I played. I just lost interest quickly, which is probably more a byproduct of when I played it and how many other Pokemon games I've played.

tbh, that does sound kinda ridiculous. It would be nice if the games had multiple difficulty options where they'd scale up levels, which would be an easy thing to do.

RB's difficulty was off-balanced so you had challenge there. Otherwise clearly you have challenge outside of the campaign with things like the battle tower.

It's weird for an adult to think that, since they should have interacted with the world enough to know better.

I think the series is easier now. Because the pool of available Pokemon has made it harder to balance the game. Lance, Drake in Gen 2, 3 were kinda hard, probably they knew this would be the case because players are not likely to have a strong Ice type attacker on their team. I feel like now you can really have universal coverage quite a bit easier.

They made small changes like XP scaling and XP share in Gen 5 and 6 to try to steer players away from making 2-3 high level Pokes and steamrolling through the game. But it just made it too easy to overlevel a full party instead. While they gave leaders and e4 a max of 4 Pokes. It was just bad.

They were harder than this. I could limit party levelling by disabling the EXP Share. Status effects actually mattered, not once did I hurt myself in confusion when I pushed from the 4th Gym to the post game, and I was confused at least a dozen times, mostly by Swagger, every time it was just an attack boost for me. The important characters would at least offer a challenge in previous games, the hardest battle I had here was Bede during the finals since I didn't have a team with any anti fairy moves. He took down one of my pokemon. Which was then healed since the semi finals and finals heal everything between battles.

It has good stuff as well, the different gym leaders mean the two versions offer some excuse to replay beyond a slightly different line up. But Sword and Shield is significantly easier than the previous Pokemon games. I didn't spend any time levelling during that whole push except for the fairy Gym raising that fire / poison lizard. Sandlit or whatever. My L40 to 60 team levels during the regular trainer fights were enough.

I mean most of the hardest Pokemon games were earlier on, not that any of them are extremely hard, but they were harder back then.
