Meanwhile, most people turn a blind eye to the corporations exploiting Chinese labor and propping up authoritarian dictators to fatten up their bottom line like Apple and Google.

Didnt know people couldnt be outraged about one thing at a time.

They are also making it harder to transition. Now no one believes that surgery should be done to a minor, that should wait for adulthood but puberty blockers and hormone theropy that is safe and reversable for a vast majority of people (its risk of severe side effects is no worse then the normal meds many kids take) and should not be made unavailable to people who may want to transition yet some states also try to ban that. Countries have banned that.

Yeah that definitely isn't ok and has a much farther reaching effect than sports and bathrooms. Fair point.

Ok, so why do you do these things then? Do you have moral superiority by accepting it all? Such a weird argument every time people bring it up.

Wal-Mart sells a knockoff "chicken dipping sauce" that tastes exactly like cfa sauce.

Also I started eating there after they promised to stop, but now it's just boycott forever.

Now go cry some tears because Chick Fil A gave some money to a group fighting a mostly lost cause

I cant speak for others, but to this predictable response, the obviously reply is no, Im not out protesting, but thats beside the point because Im not the one acting all haughty towards others because of what fast food I eat. My only point is the progressives act all moral, but they really have no serious basis on which to do so. If I were a better person, Id attend more protests, but Im not. The difference is that I shut the fuck up about it and dont fancy myself better than my less progressive peers.

I mean it's kinda sad that you need someone to explain to you why being dismissive of discrimination because "the company provides benefits to their employees when most fast food restaurants don't" is monumentally stupid.

That is nowhere near the point being made. I'm saying you need to keep more than one thing in mind when praising or condemning a company. Believe it or not, but damn near every single company has major moral failings. Chick Fil A is one company that treats their employees ethically.

Or do you think McDonalds is an amazing company because they treat their workers like garbage and pay lobbyists to keep the minimum wage low, but they did change their logo to the rainbow colors for the month of June so let's all give them a pass lol

@hockeybub89

Can you inform me of what companies actually behave ethically in all manners? Can you also explain what data we have to show that boycotts actually work?

Because from where I'm standing damn near no companies behave all that ethically and boycotts show little effectiveness.

Then we need to try something else. So tired of the big brain "The world is terrible and no one can do anything about it, so accept it" nihilist takes. Picking no causes is not more admirable than picking a few causes that aren't literally the most important in the world.

I ate at CFA earlier this week. I don't think boycotts work, but I respect people's moral choices to do so. I don't get some smug satisfaction from pointing out that they are posting that they have stopped going to Chick-fil-A or Starbucks from a smartphone made of parts built in China.

Again, you're deflecting

This conversation isn't about McDonald's. When there's a topic about how poorly McDonald's treats their customers, then you can rant about that all you want. You just want to deflect because you personally don't give a shit about discrimination against transgender people.

No I absolutely do care about discrimination against Transgenders. If you think I don't at all then you haven't actually paid attention to anything I've said in this topic at all.

The point is that ultimately no companies are acting ethically on the whole and why should I be so particularly upset with Chick Fil A and give a bunch of other companies a pass because they fly the rainbow colors?

Which is more difficult for a company to do? Pay their workers well or fly rainbow colors?

Ok so it actually sounds like you get my point then.

Is there a company out there that behaves ethically on all fronts? It seems really difficult to come by. Again, I am posting this on my cell phone paid for by slave labor in China. Then I'm going to search for ethical companies on my same slave labor from China phone.

The reality is that avoiding companies that behave unethically is like walking through a minefield. You're better off just consuming products that you personally enjoy than anything else.

I mean, damn even by virtue of living in America you're kind of benefitting off of unethical behavior from this countries past. There really is no avoiding it.

A good comparison would be like personal responsibility for environmentalism. Yeah you should try and do your part, but the problem is way beyond any one individual and their choices to the point that it means very little on its own.

Nobody is telling you to give other companies a pass. You're consistently dismissing this issue because "they treat their employees well". Just admit you don't give a shit and we can just end the discussion there.

You're just playing the straw man game.

You on a smart phone right now? Just admit you don't care about Chinese kids.

You eat factory farmed food? Just admit that you don't care about the environment.

The point is that ultimately no company behaves ethically.

Yeah what Chick Fil A donates their money to is garbage focus on the family type stuff. It is terrible. Doesn't change the fact that zooming in on them and ignoring everything else is cherry picking morality.

What other companies do you support?

None of these make any sense. Now you're just going into "you participate in society" fallacy territory.

You don't care because you're repeatedly dismissing the issue and stating that it's not worth discussing because Chik Fil A provides their employees with benefits. That's what I'm basing that statement on.
