Okay Ill go first then!

I have never seen a main storyline flop in the last act as badly as this one. The way that it demands you make a choice that makes no sense is just stupid, and the payoff to the main mystery also does not work. It also squanders its opportunity to tell an interesting story about the pre-apocalypse world and doesnt even have a good fish out of water narrative. With that said, I dont want to be too harsh. The side stories and worldbuilding can be great, its the main plot that lets it down.

If you strip it down to the bones, it's...fine. Son gets kidnapped, your frozen in stasis, time passes by and now he is a big bad man(or not). Everything else gets in the way, except for maybe a couple of memorable side quests and characters.

A horribly ill-paced story with ultimately no pay-off or satisfying build-up to make it even come close to worth it. The main story is a complete retread of Fallout 3 and it completely squanders its colorful and likable supporting cast. But, if you consider side quests part of the story, and I do, Fallout 4 still manages to shine, with quests like the Silver Shroud putting you in the role of serial vigilante and putting the dialogue system to some actually funny use, the always-creepy and mysterious Vault explorations that are always the highlight of any particular Fallout as you piece together the tragedies and horrors of each vault, or the exploring the enigmatic Cabot house that you just know dark secrets wait behind. It's just too bad none of this care is really applied to the main plot. Fallout 4 is ultimately driven more on gameplay moments and atmosphere than solid scripting, and in game like this I do think it's what's necessary and the most engaging, but if you're looking for a well-told story front-to-back, I would look elsewhere.

And I really like the game too! It's very fun and I like the characters (lot of good companions) but the story is only interesting on bits and pieces and goddamn was it an unsatisfying ending
