I prefer a laptop but Im gonna be realistic here. I built one 10-15 years ago for FFXIV and at the time it was a God. Now its in my closet with one working fan, loud af, case half off and in no way needs to be messed with.

Starting new. I dont really want to build it myself again either. Never kid free and Im never alone enough to be able to do it myself. Im A-ok with one pre built. Help me out friends.

I. NEED. YOU.

Technically yes, but the stock shortages are going to make it a lot harder.

Like, for the price of the parts, this thing should be about $1,000, but instead it's $1,300

I have that Skytech PC. It plays everything smoothly. I don't have a need to play games on Ultra HD or 4K tho.

Is there any news on when the stock shortages might end?

new factories won't be up until 2022 and there's no expectation the current factories can catchup

Is there any news on when the stock shortages might end? Or is it like saying when Covid will end? Is it Covid related, crypto related, or both? Any way to find hardware at a reasonable price still?

It's tough because almost everything is in short supply right now. Chips, capacitors, etc. I wouldn't expect things to get significantly better until the middle of 2022, if even that.

For sure. I did it for just a smidge over 1000 five or six years ago but that was me picking my parts out from different websites and ordering them. If you're trying to one stop shop, maybe not.

When I built mine I used:
https://pcpartpicker.com/

I used that because it pulls prices from various sites to find you the best one.

Then for advice I used:
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/

Edit: I meant to also say that you might have issues if you're trying to do it RIGHT NOW due to shortages.

Thanks. Is buying used hardware (graphics card) not generally recommended?

when prices are reasonable sure, when prices are what they are now, no.

If you absolutely can't resist buying a pc now, just get a prebuilt. Otherwise, wait for things to stabilized. With how AMD and Nvidia have been, you'll probably have some new variants to pick from anyway
