Do you agree with Senator (R-KY) Rand Paul that mandates for masks for the vaccinated should have been lifted months ago?

The problem is not vaccinated people, its unvaccinated people.

These are people who don't believe in masks or vaccines but they're wearing masks because its required in most places. If you lift those restrictions, you can guarantee they won't give a shit to wear a mask or get the vaccine and they're the ones putting others and others in danger.

And there can be people who are immunocompromised because they of health conditions and medications, for these people the vaccine isn't very effective and they're at risk.

No, because there wasn't enough data yet to support whether or not vaccinated people could still transmit. A lot of our growing pains have been from trying to pull back these mandates prematurely, only to lose progress, get caught in another surge, and have to play more catch up.

I've also been very clear that lifting the mandate is stupid if you aren't going to enforce masks for unvaccinated people. I live in reality, so I know you can't operate on the honor system on a national level.

I don't agree with Rand Paul because he makes it sound like everyone knew the vaccines automatically made the masks unnecessary from Day 1, and I don't think that's the case. Whenever they knew what they told everyone on May 16th, I guess I would have been fine with them lifting the mandate, but again you need to have policies enforcing masks for the unvaccinated.

Doesn't seem like it would have been great to tell everyone "Vaccines are out now. Take off your masks and we'll trust you already got vaccinated" like 6 months ago when about 12 people were vaccinated.

Rand Paul is also a little shit because he clearly doesn't give a fuck about masks or vaccines and is pandering to his voter base of anti-vaxxers who still aren't convinced the pandemic is real. He doesn't give a fuck about vaccinated people getting back to their mask-free lifestyles. Like most Republicans, he's been trying to get us to pretend the pandemic doesn't exist and bank on natural selection if it does.

I legitimately can't tell if he cares about the science or if he only cares about the science when he can use it to stick it to dems. Still, science, even when used by a republican to shit on a dem is still science.

I'm of the opinion that vaccinated people should be able to not wear a mask given the risks are far lower of anything covid related, if however it makes unvaccinated people pretend to be vaccinated and not wear masks then I suppose I'm okay with keeping a mask on for the greater good for a while still

months ago? No. Science takes time. You wait for the science and the data before to be compiled and announced before then. Second option is the obvious option.

1. Fully vax rates are 80-90%
2. Active and case counts are down to such a number where community spread is low/unlikely
3. Variants of concern that are possiblity vaccine-escaped are not in the community.

I just don't care what Rand Paul says anymore. I was a fan of his dad but Rand is not as good.

I haven't seen one person arrested for not wearing a mask that didn't deserve it. And by deserve it I mean they started yelling at employees, or they were part of a large "no mask" group trying to start shit or something else. If you walk in to a store without a mask here you'll get some looks, someone might even make a comment under their breath, but the police won't be called to arrest you.

None of those seem particularly unreasonable or unrealistic

#1 isn't even required to have a huge effect on the spread of COVID, so that alone is an unreasonable level of vaccination. The level we are currently at had a profound effect on the COVID cases in Israel, so why would we need to wait months to get to a higher level?

2 and 3 are already being met so moving #1 to a reasonable level and we're lifting restrictions in an appropriate manner.
