Citizen Kane doesn't revolve around Rosebud it's just a bookending mystery.

You would if you watched the movie though. Spoilers out of context dont make sense until context.

True, it doesnt change the movie really like sixth sense does, but it does matter

The odds that anyone here who hasn't already seen it or hasn't already heard that line was going to watch it are insignificant. Linus is already sitting down to watch it for the first time and Lucy blatantly spoils it for someone in a position to care. It's a slightly different situation.

It's an 80 year old movie. You've likely had your entire life to watch it if you were interested. I've heard the rosebud was his sled line more times than I've heard the title of the movie. It's common knowledge, just like how Aerith is Luke's father.

Yeah Rosebud is almost Romeo and Juliet tier at this point (I only say 'almost' because R&J is a Shakespearean play and Citizen Kane is "only" 80 years old).

That said, in the context of the strip Lucy was still a little bitch.

Is that really a big spoiler?

It wouldn't ruin the movie or anything, but if it's your first time seeing it you wouldn't want someone to spoil it. When I saw it the first time, and I realized what "Rosebud" was, it was a bit of a punch in a gut and affected me for a couple of hours afterwards. It's not really about what "Rosebud" is, per se. It's more about what it represents to the title character, and how most people can relate to it.

Yeah, "Rosebud" was even the subject of a well-known Family Guy gag, so at this point, it's definitely cultural osmosis.

Its more than his sleigh. Rosebud was his attachment to his first materialistic possession. Then he became super rich and had many possessions through the years but the sleigh was his reminder to his childhood. I think he would give it all up to be a kid again with only his sleigh instead of the riches.
