Went to highschool with a woman and sorta friends with her and her husband on Facebook. They are HARD right, trump supporters and all that. Well a few weeks ago, maybe a month. They got hit hard by a hit and run that flipped their jeep three times and screwed them up. So now they have a go fund me.

Me being the type of person some of you know, commented on their post "Sorry man. This is why we need universal Healthcare so bad" to which he replied...."Terry Eaheart we really do, our health insurance helped but nowhere near as much as we thought"

I dont normally get too deep in politics, and I definitely don't really fit either side really well. But it seems almost every far to moderate right person I know, or know of, is very much like this.

It's easy to say a system isn't broken when you don't have to rely on it.

Insurance here covers up to $200,000 (split between parties) in hit-and-run incidents. Sounds like in this case better vehicle insurance would have done the trick.

Oh lawdy.

And the hilarious part of this stupid, short-sighted "well, this proves this!" argument is what we've seen in countries with universal healthcare where the government has chosen to let patients die and, in the case of the UK, forbid patients from leaving the country to seek care elsewhere even when multiple other nations volunteered to provide those services for free. Just two years ago you had the British government sentence a toddler to die by discontinuing treatment then not letting his parents bring him to a country that might have valued his life.

Not to mention that we saw what the US has done with its government-backed healthcare over the years, from sterilizing unwilling Native American women as recently as the 70s (many of whom didn't realize what was done until years later) to using minority communities for STD experiments in Tuskegee.

The system is broken because of government, not because we need more of it.

There are also those who go right back to demonizing those things right after they no longer have any use for them. Like all the cases of pro-life people getting a secret abortion and then continue saying abortion is evil.

You cannot say this and also claim to even be remotely left leaning.

The kid was brain-dead, there's no cure for brain-death. The treatment that he was receiving was a ventilator that was breathing for him. What was being offered was a chance for the parents to pay out of pocket for the privilege of keeping the shell that once housed their son alive.

The system is broken because of government,

It's called regulatory capture, the medical insurance industry owns your politicians and writes the bills for them; so you are, technically, correct.

If America can break the hold that capital has on the medical profession, it will improve the lives of every person on this planet.
