Hmm, I guess this makes sense to somebody. So they hire people that they intend on firing just to meet their turnover quota.

Employers are now using all sorts of dirty tricks to control mostly hourly paid employees including and not limited to wage theft etc.

This is the kind of crap those people who stormed that Capitol in January should have stormed it for.

Most of those who stormed the Capitol were relatively well off and secure economically, which is why they were able to take an insurrection vacation to begin with

I knew companies that did similar things 25+ years ago.

usually when they hire people it's as a seasonal employee. if you are good enough you won't be let go when they get rid of the rest.... they give you opportunities to convert to an actual employee multiple times a year

It's usually tied to how laws mandate full-time pay, benefits, etc.

If a law says that employers have to provide benefits to full-time employees but not part-time employees, businesses are more inclined to hire two part-time employees instead of one full-time employee to bypass the requirement.

If a law says that employers have to provide benefits to employees after X number of months of employment, those businesses may deliberately hire people they have no intention of keeping on so they can fire them before they hit the threshold.

A lot of the quirkier things businesses do are mostly just ways to exploit loopholes in employment laws.

A lot of companies also cut hours for "full time" employees to stop them from getting the benefits.
