There's so many rules involved even just in making the thread title, and then weird followup rules, or flairs required, which don't even show up as an option on the mobile site.

I just tried and failed twice to make a post on one sub, because of some dumb rule that doesn't even show up on any of the rule lists I read. You have to answer some stupid question that only shows up in your notifications, and you only have 30 minutes to do so or the post gets deleted. I actually did everything right the second time, and yet the damn post still isn't showing up. Reddit's UI is pure garbage.

There's literally nothing I like about how Reddit works. It's easily among the worst things to happen to the internet.

Yeah. When I first tried using Reddit, it was pretty hard. I eventually got use to a few different subs where Im able to post. But I definitely understand what you mean...

This.

I've been on some relatively laid-back subreddits with almost no rules other than "Don't be a dick". I've been on others that were so draconian I noped the fuck out and never went back.

Like most things in life, it's a case of "Garbage In, Garbage Out". The shittier the people in the subreddit, the shittier the rules are likely going to be. So if it's an absolutely terrible board, it's probably not worth posting there in the first place.

I only know the rules on some subs, like on AskReddit, you can't have any text in the opening post; the entire question should be conveyed in the title. But yeah, generally, I do not post.

That explains a lot. It's mostly used by pieces of shit asking how to justify being a piece of shit instead of learning to treat people with kindness.

Plus the especially terrible places that get clobbered in hate speech get shut down, and people actually get banned for it.

Nothing rebuts anything VM said or adds any useful context. If anything, it just reinforces the confusion, considering that a site that poorly formatted and managed could be popular. However, after a certain point, a lot of established brands are popular for being popular, until they start to drop off. And Reddit can't drop off fast enough.

Considering GameFAQs has lasted this long being an obsolete poorly formatted and managed site, Reddit's probably going to be just fine for years and years to come.

Poorly managed, sure, but the format is WORLDS better than Reddit and the furthest fucking thing from obsolete, although it's going to obsolete itself chasing a fad like Reddit.

Reddit's definitely gotten worse in it's posting rules for each subreddit.

I wanted to ask for help on trying to fix a GBA (start button won't work even after the contact was cleaned) but I felt like I was gonna break a rule by doing so because every rule was "look at the FAQ and Help Guides before posting" so I just decided against posting even though I read those and didn't see an answer.

the furthest fucking thing from obsolete

For the actual reason the site exists, GameFAQs has been utterly fucking obsolete for nearly a decade.

I post here constantly, and I still won't bother looking on this site for actual video game help. There are multiple other options now that are vastly superior to most FAQs (assuming a given game even has an FAQ these days), and asking genuine questions on most video game boards is pretty much an exercise in futility. Actually looking on GameFAQs for video game help is pretty much my last stop, when every other option has failed. And even then, it rarely pans out in any meaningful way.

Even when it comes to purely social discussion (which, again, really isn't the site's purpose), GameFAQs isn't necessarily any better than Reddit. It's easy to go "Well, PotD is better than [insert worst subreddit you can think of here]", but there are plenty of subreddits that are actually fine if not great, and GameFAQs also has a number of incredibly shitty social boards (and Politics exists).

There's a reason why GameFAQs doesn't really draw in new users anymore, and why nearly every new account these days is just an old banned troll making a new alt/gimmick account to troll with. NO ONE on the outside looking in sees anything worthwhile about the site, or any reason to care about it at all. A generation ago the site was relatively famous. Today younger Internet users have likely never even heard of it.

GameFAQs used to be one of the top 300 English-language sites on the Web 15 years ago. Today, it's lucky if it breaks into the top 20000.

Now that's just splitting hairs. And, I might add, if you're trying to use Reddit for that same purpose, Reddit performs strictly worse in every regard.
