Having been to vegas several times now, I can say that being far north or far south really is a damper for any plans/activities because you have to budget so much time for transit or walking.

I just stayed at Luxor which is like the second-farthest south. Getting anywhere close to center-strip required budgeting at least half an hour of walking, likely more, to get there (return trip as well -- walking 45 minutes when you're ready for a nap or ready for bed after a long day is a bitch). And even that only got us to center strip. When you're staying center-strip, you've got much better access north and south.

Trump tower... not a preem spot. Yeah you're right by the fashion show mall which has a great outdoor cigar bar, but otherwise it's just a big mall with all the normal department stores you can find in your own city for 4x the price.

That said, if you're only staying one night, you could do worse. You're probably 20-25 mins from the Venetian area and even closer to the Wynn and its awesome dining options. But if this was a longer stay, you really would be missing out on most of what Vegas has to offer.

yeah last time i was there i was at stratosphere which is the north end and it was a minor pain. Most of the trip will be at Rio. I'm renting a shelby gt500 for 4 days, which i'm going to use to road trip to visit some family in Sante Fe to get my money's worth out of that, so this will be for coming back from that since i didn't want to drive all day then fly out on a red eye flight.

I wanted to try the Top Of The World restaurant but I hear the area around the strat is really sketch. Not to mention how far it is for people like me who don't rent a car and prefer to just stay on-strip.

Not a bad idea getting a car and staying offstrip, Rio is probably significantly cheaper and helps offset the cost of the car rental.

I honestly don't want to image what driving/parking is like on the strip though. My god, I don't know why anyone would drive an uber/lyft there. Not to mention the high vomit risk for those late night travelers.

yeah vegas is one of the few times i was scared in a car, drivers are just crazy. so the intent is to not need to drive on it as much as possible, use uber/lyft to get around the strip but otherwise mostly walk, lose some money gambling, then i've got a few things planned outside the strip.

highly recommend a visit out to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, especially if you haven't been. if you do go to GC consider going to the western rim, which is on Native American land. there are no guardrails and you can hike down as far as you want. there was only one other group there, so it wasn't crowded at all. very cool experience.

In normal circumstances, yes. But the unemployment boost has gotten so many people sitting at home that the rideshares are awful. I couldn't get a ride for half an hour from Luxor to Caesar's Palace (took 20 mins to locate a driver, then one confirmed but cancelled 10 minutes en route to us). So we had to basically speedrun 2.5 miles to Caesars Palace to make our show.

Yeah I try to walk generally as much as possible for the exercise and for the sights. I do someday need to take a trip for stuff outside the strip/fremont. Like a grand canyon trip, hoover dam, red rocks, etc.
