It was on blue bloods and a cop was wearing a wire but instead of a traditional wire its a Bluetooth earpiece picking up audio from her phone.

So the perp is sitting there with his phone open on search for Bluetooth devices, in walks the cop and up pops MY LISTENING DEVICE on his Bluetooth list.

like ffs they really expect us to believe that a cop on an undercover mission is gonna just be a basic bitch and not disguise their Bluetooth device name or at least not have it discoverable???

wtf is wrong with tv sometimes man

I feel like you're overestimating the tech savvy of most government institutions.

I'm surprised that wasn't a real occurance. That's just a dumb mistake that could happen, especially if the user wasn't familiar with how Bluetooth works. People expect government agents to be all-knowing deities.

I'm more surprised the perp was just randomly looking for Bluetooth devices, like wtf? Also, shouldn't the headset not pop up unless it's in pairing mode? Also, why wouldn't the cop just record using his phone?? Bluetooth is far more unreliable than a physical microphone.

Shes a young cop in her 20s Im sure she knows how Bluetooth headsets work.

also I imagine the plan was to just have her phone out like a normal girl in a bar but secretly recording and feeding back audio to the truck simultaneously rather than just opening up an obvious app on her phone to record the other guy directly.

Also I think the other guy just had the thing open. And yeah the device shouldnt show up unless its in pairing mode lol, although are t some devices perma on like TVs and laptops iirc? like when youre on a train and you scan for shit you get loads of devices pop up

umm yeah thats great for u but like the whole scene before she went into the bar to catch the guy was her telling all the old school cops how there no more traditional wires anymore and its all Bluetooth these days so its like on one hand she knows all about new tech and shes teaching everyone about it but on the other hand cant disguise or at the very least rename her shit?

its lame

That's cops. Believe me. The typing requirements to get into the Canadian RCMP is 15WPM. They hire self-confident dildos and don't train them, especially not in bluetooth. Pretty reasonable to hear a young cop dunking on the older ones while still being a complete lameoid.

I like how tv shows made people think undercover cops have to tell you if they are a cop...

even worse, people think you have to be read your rights at the time of arrest or you go free.

its all Bluetooth these days

It was the second CBS show to mention that, just that week, FBI (I don't remember which one) mentioned it too and I think it came up on The Equalizer as well; would not be surprised if it was mentioned on one of the NCIS's also. Thanks CBS

Bluetooth is far more unreliable than a physical microphone.

It's easily jammed, picks up all sorts of interference, and drops connection easily; if LEO's are using bluetooth to connect their wire they are putting people in danger with no guarantee that they will actually get the recording. Super Dumb
