mmm, yes, after israel and the west (read:U.S.) ensured for years that the PLO would be ineffectual, driving the population to Hamas deliberately so that it would have more justification for this brutality thanks to the occasional militant action

and i really doubt you actually believe that an elected governments military actions that you disagree with are justification for terrorism against its civilians

True, but anyone can look at the current situation and recognize that one party in this conflict is in power and one party is being subjected to apartheid levels of oppression.

Hamas has nothing to gain by breaking the ceasefire. They know Israel has a retaliation directive when it comes to geting rockets fired upon. They did the same thing to hezbollah in Lebanon.

They should stop with the rocket attacks and put the Palestinian people's lives in more regard. Israel is not going to stop bombing if they're poked.
Hamas never operates according to logic or what's moral, and they launch rockets in the first place because they know Israel will retaliate by attacking their launch sites that are intentionally located where civilians are concentrated in order to rile up low information outrage mobs (which is working splendidly going by this topic alone).

You can criticize Israel without acting like Hamas arent also in the wrong or saying anti-Semitic things like calling Israelis European colonizers

This is absolutely disgusting and they need to answer for this. First of all, criticizing Israel (a nation) is NOT anti Semitic.

We need to stop giving them monetary and military support until they start playing by the rules. I view what they just did as a terrorist attack and Im not okay with it. Look up how much money we send them every year. Why?? What do they do for us? They exist to pick fights and bring others in to do the work.

Im not okay with another soldier dying because of a fight they picked with someone who isnt messing with us. Every year, we send them money that our people desperately need, so why?

The whole Western World needs to cut them off until they stop this shit, because they seem to be the aggressors more often than not.

Saying Ashkenazi Jews arent really Jews is a known anti-Semitic trope.

The majority of Israeli Jews arent Ashkenazi (although they are the plurality)

About 25% of Israels population arent Jewish, with the majority of them (around 18% of the total population) being Muslim.

There is seriously a lot of questionable statements and misinformation coming from left wingers on this issue. This is one issue where all extremists are very wrong. Maybe because its such a complex issue to begin with?

Again, Israel started this whole chain of violent events. Also I'm not sure why Israel's "policy of 10x retaliation" or whatever is just accepted when they are the oppressor in all of this. Hamas warned Israel to leave after Israel attacked al-Aqsa or else they would fire missiles and Israel intentionally did not listen.

This is a very dishonest comparison, even ignoring the oversimplification of the arguments of those who recognize the complexity of this issue.

The Black Lives Matter movement never intended to imply that the lives of other races dont matter. On the other hand, the right for either Israel or Palestine to exist is a big part of this entire issue. The people that question either nations right to exist are extremists, but they represent a significant number of people on either side.

The comparison is that in both cases, one party is the oppressor, and one party is oppressed. Israel is literally doing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, and people are going "but Palestinians fighting back is bad too". It's devoid of any acknowledgment of the current power dynamic. Similar to how "all lives matter" people refuse to acknowledge that black lives are being oppressed.

Smashingpmkns posted...

This old chart is propaganda with no basis in reality.

1. There has never been a "Palestine" with those borders and in 1946 that land was under British mandate so the first map is just completely fabricated. It also ignores the fact that at that time in that region you had roughly half a million Jews and a million "Palestinians" living in that region so the colors are also completely ignoring the actual demographic information so it can pretend that there was a Palestine that had land.
2. The second map represents a proposed plan to the UN that was never adopted because Palestine rejected it. Israel was willing to accept those borders but Palestine wasn't, instead initiating the a war in an attempt to just wipe Israel off the map.
3. The third map is pretty much accurate, but what it's not mentioning is that the reason the date stops at 1967 is because that's when the 6-day war happened and a league of Arab Nations again (notice a pattern?) attempted to wipe Israel off the map. It was in this war that they took the Golan heights and the West Bank, which hold significant strategic value as whoever holds that land has the ability to launch missile strikes into Israel in a way that they can't defend against.
4. I have no idea how accurate the fourth map is, but at this point it also represents repeated peace deals that have been rejected by the Palestinian government, and given the fact that the prior three maps were either completely fabricated or misleading I have little reason to believe that it tells the whole story either.

The conflict in that area is significantly more complicated than people would let on, but the only other thing I will add is that something else not represented in those charts is the fact that when the Ottoman empire fell and the league of nations, then later the un, carved up that territory it resulted in more than just israel. It also defined the borders of iraq, syria, turkey, and transjordan. So if anybody is going to question the legitimacy of those borders they might want to ask themselves why of all those countries created only one of them is illegitimate.

Edit: and for anyone who thinks this is an opportunity to call me some kind of Israeli shill, everything I mentioned above is factual and easily researched. I'm not saying any of this is justification for what the modern Israeli government is doing, and I'm not going to accuse anyone of intentionally spreading propaganda. I'm simply pointing out that the actual history in this region is pretty complicated and maps like the ones above exist purely to spread a false narrative.
