Later, flamer and minigun ammo is pretty easy to get, and if you have two Cap Collector (?) perks, you can buy said ammo at a 1:1 ratio. If you get a water farm up and running, you should be able to buy hundreds of each type of ammo pretty easily. Not much you can do about scarcity of missiles, mini nukes, cryo ammo, etc. though. I know a lot of people like the economical advantage of gatling lasers, since they use fusion cores (1:500) as ammo and you can use Nuclear Physicist to up how long cores last.

But yeah, I know heavy stuff isn't always going to be that great, so I have three ranks in melee prowess, too. Mostly been saving my fat man, missile launcher, flamer and miniguns for when I really need 'em. I would assume you can go to Saugus Ironworks and kill flamer-using enemies to get tons of free ammo, though. (Just add the flamers to the inventory to get 'em; they have a default size of 300 or 400.)

I tend to start stocking up on Flamer ammo as soon as Diamond City becomes available, so that I have a good 2,000 round stock before I actually start using it regularly. Of course the Heavy Incinerator isn't as much of an ammo hog as the Flamer, and has a much better return on damage / crowd control even before boosting its usefulness with a mod.

Yeah, I would buy flamer ammo and railroad spikes before I wanted to use those things, too, but only after the ammo gets to a 1:1 ratio. Too expensive otherwise. If you want to use a Railway Rifle extensively, though, you've pretty much gotta buy its ammo from every ammo-carrying vendor as soon as possible.

Heavy weapons interest me, but it seems like they just take up too much inventory space and ammo is scarce.
Missiles are fairly common for what they do, though you want a good Legendary effect. If nothing else you can purchase the Party Starter to get 50% more damage against humans.

Big Boy is functionally unique being a Two Shot explosive weapon. This immediately tacks on an extra 400 points of damage without the need for perks. Also, once you get the extra AoE from perks it interacts with the Two Shot effect in such a way to grant an extra bonus to the AoE. This helps the Big Boy clear entire encounters with a single shot.

I've been thinking about buying Big Boy once I get a second rank of the Cap Collector (?) perk, because it's so damn expensive right now -- over 11000 caps. Not sure how the Two-Shot prefix works with the MIRV upgraded.

According to the wiki, an MIRV-enhanced Big Boy will fire 12 mini nukes per shot (while only consuming one round, of course). It's also fully compatible with the Nuka-Nuke mod.

Such a pity that Fallout 4 does such a piss-poor job at reading splash damage on enemies, though. I swear to goodness I've seen more enemies walk completely unscathed through a nuke blast by hiding behind a single fence post, barbed wire, or six-inch difference in elevation than I've seen actually take damage from one.

Doubles the total projectile count. And, with the AOE perk upgrade, each MIRV bomblet has almost the same area as a standard non-perked Fat Man mininuke.

I wonder...if I killed Wolfgang and carried his body all the way to Sanctuary, would it still spawn raiders to get murdered by my turrets? Or would it just despawn his body somehow? I'm curious, 'cause no one's attacked my little hamlet yet.

I don't have too many ranks in Demolition Man yet, but I might go for the MIRV when it's available. Don't remember what the Nuka-Nuke mod is, but I wouldn't mind having that. Could also pick up that kickass power armor while I'm in the DLC. Only LV21 or something now, though, so that may be a ways off this time.

Wolfgang and Simone are among a sizeable list of NPCs whose corpses never despawn. The Unofficial Patch corrects these instances and despawns them, but I'm a weirdo who doesn't want this issue corrected, so I don't use the patch for that and a number of other reasons. Anyway, yes, his corpse in particular is one of those that occasionally spawns raiders / scavengers, so anywhere you drag it, the spawning effect will follow it.

On that subject, I'd highly recommend that you add this mod to your LO: https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/3207004
Very simple and effective convenience mod that's never given me any issues.

Also, legitimate settlement attacks on Sanctuary are pretty rare compared to other settlements. Occasionally you'll have a random monster or two waltz in (turned around one time fairly recently to find poor Sturges being suplexed by a Deathclaw for no discernable reason), but compared to places like County Crossing, Finch Farm, Greentop, and Nordhagen, Sanctuary rarely gets attacked.

I seem to remember attacks in Sanctuary come over that bridge, so I remember once building most of my defenses and housing near there. Kinda want to use Wolfgang's summoned lackeys as target practice, though, so I might relocate him eventually.

Also, just had a fun encounter at Boston Public Library. I looked up where the INT bobblehead was so I didn't have to go another level without Science!, and then found a bunch of dead mutants near a stairwell, including some legendaries. Some had miniguns, too, so this would've solved some early-game ammo scarcity issues. Shame I only just remembered now.

Be aware the Bill Sutton dying prematurely will break the later Institute quest related to Warwick (by preventing it from ever starting) , should you have any interest in doing it (it's one of the side quests that can be done before you lock in your faction choice).

I'm in the habit of unlocking Warwick as a settlement, setting up a ton of turrets, and then never revisiting (if I can help it) until after said quest has concluded. And I frequently check the settlement stats in the menu to make sure 6 people are still living there.

There's a random encounter node across the river that can spawn everything up to a Deathclaw, though it is rare. Depending on how the NPCs are patrolling it's possible the thing ran across the shallows to reach Sanctuary.

I'd give my random settlements some turrets, but...I need that oil for water purifiers. Got 180 water in Sanctuary, I think. In my old-school Sanctuary fort I built, I had friendly deathclaws everywhere, so I didn't need to wall it in. I could probably get funny pics of that town if anyone wants 'em.

Anyway, pic dump time! Me and Danse sharing a moment here. Can you imagine if synths could replace anyone and I might not even know it? What a scary thought!

Wolfgang, how would you like to join me in Sanctuary? =)

Here's the library massacre. These dudes must've come in from the subway station below and got absolutely boat-raced by the turrets and (lol) protectrons. I had to kill a couple afterwards, but damn, those robos did some work.

Here's a little lit-up overpass chunk near Saugus Ironworks with no way up. Curious what's up there, if anything. I think it's just high enough to jetpack onto.

Never had anyone specifically reference my minigun before.

RIP Peepers =(

At first, I was wondering why the BOS would attack a vertibird, but then I realized, there are GUNNERS in that one. Absolutely mindboggling how those assclowns could have this technology, only to waste it going twenty feet southeast to Hyde Park and getting blown up. Inconceivable.

RIP unnamed child (?) at Big John's Salvage
Your spirit will live on in that baseball grenade I'm making.

After the massacre at Big John's Salvage, I came back up only to find some of the battle had respawned or reignited. The mutants stayed dead (sadly; no minigun hijinx inherently) but some BOS boys came to wreck shop. As an interesting note, you can't loot dead pilots while they're sitting in the craft. I think you'd have to blow it up and see where they land.

Yeah, I can see how that would be good to have. I cleared Nuka-World's first two missions yesterday, though, so it's no biggie anymore. Kinda want that special X-01 power armor in the space-themed area, but I remember how annoying it was previously to collect 30+ MacGuffins. I'm over LV30 now, so maybe I can go to that raider hideout that has respawning power armor and try to get X-01s that way.

Most of the Star Cores are in the Galactic Zone, which is fun for me because I love exploring that place (barring occasional freezing / crashing issues in the exterior). There's only 4-5 outside the GZ, and only one of those is outside the park proper (at the junkyard to the west).

I always choose to wipe out the raiders first chance I get, but this time I took it one step further and trekked to the power plant immediately afterwards to turn on the park's power, something I'm going to do on every future playthrough. So nice having not having to wait until the end to have the rides powered up, not to mention the areas blocked off until the power's restored (such as the GZ observation tower, which incidentally contains a Star Core and - under normal circumstances - gatekeeps you from getting the Quantum X-01 suit until after the questline).

Robotic enemies are where the challenge is at in Fallout 4: Sentry Bots are absolutely relentless and will mop the floor with you in the midgame, and Assaultron Dominators are serious threats even well into lategame. Not to mention some of the OP Automatron scrapbots that can assault you in the wild.

Thought there weren't any Nuka raiders in the power plant this early, but there were randomly two Operators here. Odd...

Got a special weapon by intimidating Mason over and over. Get rekt, son.

For some reason, this just pisses me off. It took a lot of annoyances on my legit character to try and get one, and then my melee/heavy/explosives guy just randomly finds it. Probably did Rogue Robot on my other character 20-30 times, just trying to get one, haha.

If you want to farm that battleground spawnpoint, sometimes you can just fire a mini nuke and get rid of your "allies". Sometimes it blows corpses far away (possibly clipping through the map), though, so it ain't without issues. Never get tired of the twin mini nuke cam, though.

Oswald must have this line for power armor users. I'd be curious to know how many contemporary Commonwealth peeps know about Wizard of Oz, though. Old-timey ghouls, sure, but it's pretty rare to hear any literature mentioned specifically. Macbeth is there, I guess, but besides that?

Moved 4000 pounds of junk to Abernathy and finally made a perimeter fence of boxcars. Gonna need an entrance somewhere for caravans, so maybe the NE corner or something. Can also make fusion generators, so I'm gonna dot this place with missile launchers, too. Just gotta fill in the areas below boxcars with cement foundations or something.

.I wanted missiles and mini nukes. =(
Level and base Luck can help with that. Well, for the missiles. Mini Nukes are best farmed from specific spots and enemies.

Yeah, I think there are some respawning nukes I remember, like the one at Boston Airport, KLE0's stand in Goodneighbor, etc. I could also get free nukes from any respawning fat man too, I suppose.

My LCK is pitifully low, I think. I guess to truly enjoy this game, you have to dupe Shaun's SPECIAL book to max out all your stats, haha.

At higher levels there's a small chance for a 4 pack in ammo containers, or for them to randomly show up in 'trashcan' items; no, seriously, they have a specific spawn chance in rubbish containers.

I've been getting a few randomly lately, so maybe that's where they've been coming from. Definitely using quite a few missiles in the Galactic Zone -- it's hard not having a single pistol or rifle to take these turrets out. Almost have 20 star cores, though, so it's going well.

Not gonna lie: this area is kinda cool. Shame there's so many laser turrets.

Those crazy Scien--, I mean, Hubologists are so crazy! I resisted the urge to murder them, but I did give them my three crappiest fusion cores without them noticing. Take that!

You came to the wrong neighborhood, Junkbot.

You came to the wrong neighborhood, colonel (that I lured into a trap and released you intentionally with the expressed purpose of murdering you).

Jetpacked up to that overpass near Saugus Ironworks finally and found a steamer. Knew there was something up there, but I thought there was a bed too, for some reason.

Abernathy Farm is coming along. Still haven't decided what to put further down the hill, but maybe more food would work. It'd be annoying to try and repair all that though if and when missiles fly down there.

I feel like I should've been using harpoon guns all along, but I forgot they were heavy weapons for some reason. Modded mine out for a scope and barbed rounds, but man, those reloading times suck. The legendary I found is the exact same one that Allen sells in Far Harbor, too, lol.
