And by play, I mean screw around with a joke character and probably do a lot of settlement building. Let's see how long it is before I get bored.

This game kind of sucks for actual role-playing.

My last Fallout4 character was made to look like a ronin samurai and he only used swords. It was a stretch of the imagination since there are only a few actual swords in the game.

I gave her every time of blemish, marking, scar, and makeup.

So, went through the boring-ass vault sequence to get outside in present day. First things first: go to that packing plant really far away and get the free shotgun (?) on the roof there. I always do that, and things are even easier if I can get that perk that lets you swim without being irradiated. At least, that's what it does in my mind.

As for mods, I'm not playing with any (on PS4), but I guess I could look some up. There's only a laughable 900MB alloted space, though, so I'm not very hopeful. IIRC, only in-game assets and reskins are allowed by Sony? Almost feels like a waste of time.

Definitely. Tying a lot of the best weapon mods to max-level Science/etc. and having four dialogue options (yes, no but yes, sarcastic yes, repeat the question) doomed a lot of the interactions from the start. I think I can still have some fun in there, though, especially when I make my own killer robot companion. Gotta be LV20 to do that, though...I think. Or maybe that's doing the stupid robot DLC to get my favorite settlement item: wall-mounted spotlights. Too bad they're glitched on PS4 and don't always work. SLAMMING!!!!

I did a Jason Voorhees build one time, high strength and resistance, melee only, grab the Grognak Axe asap. It was fun slowly walking up to 3 or 4 raiders firing at me, tanking it all knowing they were dead the moment I got to them.

Melee-only sounds fun. I think I still have a character like that somewhere. That axe is at that comic book shop somewhere, right? I remember there's some kind of silly costume, too. Speaking of which, if I could run around as Silver Shroud, that'd be pretty great. I forget if that's at the same building or not. (Oh god, I need ballistic weave...)

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Mostly gonna get a facility for producing clean water up and running. Having actual settlements on console is trash, so when I build, it's mostly just me there. Not even worth having robo NPCs, since they spawn and might not do anything. I highly doubt Bethesda fixed that crap on console, anyway.

Yeahhhhhh, got my rifle atop that packing plant. It has no ammo, but it's still greattttt. Thought it was a combat shotgun, but eh well. If I want good stuff, I'll buy some ammo and do sneak crit headshots on the mercenaries guarding that one...what, psychiatric hospital? There's some quest where a dude is held prisoner in its depths or something. I gotta get some armor that's better than wet construction paper.

As for mods, I got the unofficial patch, but that's it. Might get the one that removes building limits later, but it might not be as useful as one would think.

Hmm, I think that raider area with the sunken ships had a good shotgun in the boss room. My chick ain't much for stealth, though, so I'd need an arsenal to get there. Pretty sure at least one dude has a missile launcher, too... This sniper ain't too shabby, but maybe I should try to get a legendary off some ghouls. I get by with a little help from my friends, just like Ringo envisioned it. Coastal Cottage is mine, but I'm not really interested in building there. Tenpines Bluff was always my jam as a solo house, especially with my brainwashed group of yao guai protectors. Gonna be harder to do that nowadays, though, with this build (optimized for max money earnin').

Yeah, that's what I would tell people back in the day. It's a step back in so many ways, but settlement building -- being able to create your own little house in a sandboxy area -- ain't one of 'em. I mean...building DOES have a lot of problems, and this interface seems ancient by now (Far Cry 5 did it better), but allowing players to do that is a great step forward. I'd hope any future Fallout games keep it in, provided there's a proper QA this time and there aren't any "buy these in-game assets" DLC packs.

I feel a little bad for scrapping these places since I don't have the perk that gets you better components. Already got my water purifier farm going, though. Cement ain't gonna be cheap. I think I had a good trader route going south from Sanctuary to some old diner, then onto Bunker Hill and Goodneighbor. Might try that again.

Here's that Spectacle Island corpse that clips through this junk and never leaves. It is my nemesis.

Weird infected birds didn't even leave when I approached. Odd.

Love farming weapons at this toy factory. Those horse toys you get have some good scrap value too -- lots of screws and whatnot. My chick is too weak to really tango with anything here, but I did sneak snipe one of the roof guards, so...hooray.

Bilking this game show host robot out of money was great. I haven't decided where my actual house will be this time, but Greygarden is a good choice, since you can build stairways to get on top of the overpass. Very secure, yo. That farm near the ironworks can do that, too.

lmao @ this line
Said with all the conviction of a rough-draft take.

The guy who attacks was too hard to tackle early on, sadly, so I just scratched the entire quest.

I knew I remembered this being here.

Ahh, the mental institution. Love farming gear here. Of course, with Longfellow's coat and water farm cash, it's not as necessary. Still managed to get a nice Combat Helmet, though.

Killed a legendary assaultron and Lieutenant Gutsy this morning by swimming out to a boat and repeatedly sniping 'em. They only dropped garbage, though, so that was disappointing. I seem to remember finding lots of legendary robots in this area years ago, so maybe it'll be a good farm area.

The Gutsy also blew up like a nuke (!???) when it died, which I did not remember. Good thing I was safely outside the blast radius.

One of the all-time best areas in the game: Libertalia, the bandit colony made up of shipwrecks and flotsam. It really has a cool design, with wreckage stretching from the Nahant Pier all the way around to the central platform (lots of dead traders here) and an express lift up to Wire's cruise ship. It was fun going through earlier since you have to watch out for the raider with a Fat Man. Of course, the entire reason to enter was...

...to get this free shotgun, which kicks mucho ass. Best part was, Wire was trying to shoot me while I was still down at water level outside, so he wasn't even upstairs when I exited.

"Won't you be...my neighbor?"

I don't always bring companions with, but when I do, it's MacCready.

KLE0 gets about 25% of the best lines in the game -- kinda unfair to everyone else. KLE0 is also the main reason why it's fun to make an assaultron companion, especially since they...you know...fit through doors.

Used to farm this satellite array a lot back in the day. I think there's always a suicider for a free mini nuke.

Near the Gunners' TV station, this house exploded out of nowhere. I think it's a moonshiner hut or meth lab.

In Acadia, I bought Sergeant Ash, a.k.a. the Crippling Flamer. It's a lethal combination and stops many enemies from approaching you. Had lots of fun in my older files using this on Mirelurk Queens, lmao.

After a little deliberation, I decided I would, once again, build my fortress at Warwick Farmstead, built around an old sewage treatment plant. Plenty of water spaces and a nice, unique setting. Put a bunch of baby turrets around the joint, but I'd rather have better stuff...unfortunately, the best I can muster is a laser turret (LV1 Science). Can make large generators, at least. Since there are already settlers here, I'm gonna recruit more and see if this unofficial patch is up to snuff.

It's a moonshine still. If you walk into the hut you'll find a bunch of alcohol and empty bottles strewn about.

On the topic of Warwick though, do keep an eye on your Settler count. The game sometimes spawns them behind the building, trapped in a pool of water that is deep enough to cause radiation damage. The Settlers can die there, including the named ones.

Got my recruitment beacon set up, so I think I'll just send my settlers on supply runs to these other joints I unlocked to get their inventories shared. You actually can't send any of the Warwicks or their helpers on these tasks, so it's been a little annoying. (Having that 12-year-old as the caravaneer would've been funny.)

I like a lot of things about Nuka-World, but yeah, some aspects are just kinda dumb. I also hated how, when I wanted to be an evil raider, I had to go through 75% of the DLC to unlock the option. And even then, raider settlements weren't even enjoyable, lmao. If you could beat the crap out of Gunners and mutants to make them subservient, that'd be cool. Instead it's just "oh great...two settlers and a cow are mine to command." IIRC, the settlement immediately hates you when you take it over, so you might have to raise it up into a large, productive settlement, THEN betray it for best effect. Waste of time.

But hey...never let it be said everything was bad:

A suicider gave Cait a baptism by (nuclear) fire. When you think about it, being a suicider has to be the crappiest job assignment in the game. Kill yourself to blow up anything? Even baby mirelurks because you don't have anything besides a nuke? I can imagine the mutant job recruiter always telling newbies "we have openings in this position," haha.

From sewage, salvation. Gotta figure out what that is in Latin, 'cause this place is a fortress. While I was getting this screenshot, I went back a ways and aggro'd a legendary mirelurk hunter. Aida and my 4-5 gun turrets, in the words of the philospher GZA, "ripped its fucking fangs apart". Gonna have to start scanning the shallows from now on to get free legendaries.
