For when you really REALLY want something dead.

I'd never seen this before, but a deathclaw duo attacked my ridiculously fortified Warwick Farmstead and got ripped to pieces in a hail of bullets.

As I was trying to spawn a bunch of encounters, I found two deathclaws duking it out near Gunners Plaza. Pretty sure I ended up resetting this after I accidentally murdered my own sentrybot provisioner later, though, haha.

For when you really really REALLY need something killed.

I wish I used guns like this, 'cause it seems pretty badass.

Forget if I ever ran into this guy before, but after looking it up, I usually come across his house in my first journey south on new files. Luckily, he doesn't spawn early on with a friggin' gatling laser.

I read that there's a glitch where Smiling Larry can spawn dead. Wonder if that's what happened to him, 'cause I've seen random pack brahmin with no attendants, plus one time a brahmin + two bodyguards and no merchant.

Most people find Regi when he still has a Minigun. You have to avoid the west side of the Corvega Auto Plant for quite a few levels to get him to spawn in with a Laser Gatling. Heck, the house he spawns in has boxes of 5mm ammo IIRC; along with an Ushanka Hat and some drinks set up on a metal beam(includes a Quantum).

Yeah, I haven't been around Corvega for a long time. Went back onto the bridge where Deacon and I met that Railroad dude earlier and I spotted some radroaches from afar. Shot a few and Regi busted out the gatling to try murdering me. It...didn't go well. For him.

Also, I figured out what was wrong with my sentry torso! I beat the storyline, but hadn't talked to Ada to finish "Restoring Order". Did that, went back to the bench, and badaboom -- it was available!

Apologies, but when you mentioned your Slog settlement I couldn't resist the urge to share some pics of the Slog Market I put together on my current playthrough. No mods yet, at least as far as settlement objects go; just vanilla and Creation items (though you will notice some other modded assets; figured the burgeoning market could use a rather unique selling point to attract wasteland merchants).

You must've made that your home base, huh? I've built cement walls all around the place too, but after seeing how prefab stuff lowered settlement size, I decided against it and just built upward. I should try using those powered doors sometime -- see 'em sometimes but don't really bother. I guess you hook 'em up to a laser tripwire to open it on one side and prevent access from the other later?

The common recommendation for first person games is to adjust the Field of View. Certain ranges can cause motion sickness in a portion of players. If you feel any sort of nausea after extended play it's worth looking into.

Oh no, I learned a long time ago for stability's sake to keep my loot-dumping home base and heavily-built / decorated settlements separate. Anymore I usually store my important gear / loot in the Noir Penthouse Creation and overflow loot in Home Plate. Exterior settlements are just for fun RP building and stores. I'd always wanted to turn the Slog into a full-blown marketplace with vendors in bikinis (it is a swimming pool, after all), and finally got motivated to do it. Next project is to turn Nordhagen Beach into a boardwalk-style seaside market.

The powered doors make for great barriers if you're trying to keep enemies out; the large garage-style door especially makes for an excellent front gate. Just hook them up on one side or the other to a power switch and shut it off when you want it closed (or rather, leave it off / closed by default and only power it up when you need to get through). Enemies won't turn the power on, so you can quite effectively shut them out.

My joint is jumping, but it shouldn't be this jumping. I have a lot of robot settlers as provisioners, so maybe they all showed up at the same time or something. The number went up about 20 points as I had my cursor over it.

Cleared out the ironworks and somehow managed to save this settler. Don't think I've ever done that before. They just left afterwards, too -- lame. At least that Slag douche fell into the molten metal as he was dying, lmao.

Finch Farm Get! First time I've ever used an elevator in a settlement and I think it went okay, considering I half-assed the overpass connection part. Lots of prefab metal structures up there, to the point I actually exhausted all my steel supply. Don't think that's ever happened to me on any file.

And what better way to procure good stuff early than by farming free steamer trunks and following super mutants around until they die? These guys are wandering near Danse's police station, lol. It'll be awhile before miniguns are available, I think, but eh well. I can always do The Big Dig later once I have some actual firepower. It's just me and my machete right now. =(

Oh, there's a nice early game exploit for that, which I'll put behind spoilers for those that don't want to know:
Bedford Station, the site with the ghouls along the railroad tracks, respawns the entirety of the northern building every time you pass through without having to go away for the usual number of days, which should persist so long as you avoid the Underground Railroad stuff further south on the tracks

It's level locked to an early game range, but can still have some nice stuff every time you pass through. This includes some of the junk, from Adhesive in tool chests to to Oil from a Lighter, and First Aid supplies.

Haha, I already visited that earlier since it was on the way and you can open the chest by standing on that tree outside. Didn't know it restocks that often, though. Also visited the East Boston Police Station (or at least a warehouse near it) which had free rest and a red steamer trunk. If I go to Far Harbor, I know there's another one on some ruined house next to town, too.

Might get this power armor fixed up, then go get Fahrenheit's incendiary minigun reward. Fifteen extra damage on a minigun, per bullet, ain't no laughing matter.

If you want to try and keep settlements out of the 'Preston loop' - in which you get stuck in a neverending cycle of Preston missions - accept whatever first settlement mission he gives you (it'll either be Abernathy Farm / USAF Station Olivia Raiders, or Tenpines Bluff / Corvega Raiders). Do the other settlement mission and complete it before turning the first one in (if Preston gives you Abernathy, finish Tenpines first). With both of those out of the way, Preston should then give you a mission to conquer an empty location (will most likely be Starlight Drive-In, could on rare occasions be Sunshine Tidings). Put this new quest (and Preston himself) on indefinite ignore, and go about securing settlements in your own time. This way you can claim all the vacant / abandoned settlements on your own without being forced to recruit settlers (you can do this later on your own time). Staying out of the Preston loop also gives you the benefit of recruiting populated settlements at your leisure, as opposed to whenever Preston's RNG ass feels like it; if Preston's sent you on a mission to help County Crossing but you want to recruit the Slog, odds are that the game will prevent the necessary kill-the-enemies quest dialogue with Wiseman from occurring until Preston finally sends you there.

Keeping existing populated settlements out of the Preston Loop is trickier; sometimes the quests will completely automatically, sometimes they'll force you to talk to Preston to conclude them. I had some really good luck this playthrough very early on when I stumbled upon one of the Oberland settlers kidnapped in the Cambridge metro tunnel; problem was that the quest didn't officially begin until I returned her home, at which point it forced me to talk to Preston. So I reloaded an earlier save, went to talk to the remaining settler at Oberland first to get the quest, saved the kidnapped settler and returned her again, and the settlement became available and quest concluded without needing to talk to Preston. From that point on I was able stay out of the Preston loop until every settlement on the map save Starlight and The Castle were aligned; finally I did have to secure Starlight and talk to Preston about the Castle, but I was only stuck in the loop for about 3-4 generic clear-area missions before he gave it a rest.

Yeah, I might do that sometime. Was over in Nahant and the chapel (the one near the mirelurk queen spawn) has a free steamer in the upstairs sanctuary, plus you can usually sneak into that nearby house where the fighting spawns for a red steamer + corpse loot. Already knew where these were, but I should make a running list of easy stuff, since I barely have any flamer/minigun ammo and have had to rely on my aluminum bat for everything. Gonna look for those magazines that reduce purchase pricing by 3%/per and see if that helps a bit, too. I can't be buying crucial ammo for 3/per.

They do. They function like wearing a Fortify Barter effect in Skyrim, as a separate multiplier that draws from your Charisma and other bonuses. The system caps out at a 20% shift in the other party's favor though: meaning you'll purchase at 120% of true value and sell for 80% of true value.

My CHA is really low on this new character, though, so I'm gonna need to invest in the bartering perk a few times, too, to really get what I need. Should be able to get that ammo down to 1c/per after awhile. I could also invest a bit in pickpocketing, since heavy gunners like Fahrenheit (and probably others, like Glory) spawn lots of 5mm ammo in reserves. Heard that letting other characters pick up miniguns might spawn tons, too.

This is also a great tactic once Super Mutants start carrying Miniguns. Kill the one carrying it, then let another mutant pick it up and repeat. Each mutant killed will have 5mm rounds on them after using the weapon in combat.

Don't forget to pick up the Minigun itself. Some people forget that you can claim all unfired ammo in a weapon on an enemy corpse provided that they were in a combat state when killed; so it won't work if they were OHKO assassinated from stealth. E.g. .45 caliber ammo is fairly easy to get in that manner since Submachineguns can have up to 100 shots when equipped with a Drum Magazine.

Yeah, I've looted Ack-Ack earlier and got a ton of 5mm ammo, but I'm running out. Not going to be an assassin for a long while (it'd be easier if I could have Sneak + Blitz), so it's a little harder to do confrontations with super mutants right now. I have at least one Rooted perk, but I'd probably need another to really contend. Ashmaker's doing well right now, though, and I could always get the Neverending Minigun from Nuka-World, too, if it came to that. Gotta prioritize, though.

One of the game's best vendors for ballistic ammo. I'm not positive that she sells 5mm ammo (as I usually seek her out to stock up on 5.56 ammo), but I'd be surprised if she didn't.

And yeah, the exploit of letting an enemy pick up a minigun is great - I've had enemies conjure up to 500 rounds per pickup.

I didn't check if she sold any when I was back there earlier in the game, but most vendors that sell ammo have about 300+ 5mm right now, so I'm sure she's in the loop.

That's actually a great choice for Radiant quest, IMO. Being Bethesda kids they are IMMORTAL, and since they tag along with you the quests won't send you to DLC zones; avoiding stupid situations like, "Yo, MC, we at the Railroad need to get this Synth out of the Commonwealth...
