I like how every couple of years they change the look of the site without actually doing anything to make the site more modern and relevant.

...while usually breaking at least 2-3 other things every time.

I had kinda wondered about that since the social boards looked the same with the beta.

Its the weirdest decision to just make some of the boards redesigned and others not. Itll be jarring going back and forth instead of just getting used to it.

Maybe they're operating under the assumption that most of the regulars spend most of their time on the social boards, and are therefore only redesigning the game boards because those are the ones that newcomers are most likely to see (and, apparently, they think that it's a horrible look that will put off literally everyone that stumbles across it). Of course, the fact that they're outright saying "people won't like this, so we'll minimize the impact to our regulars" should really cause them to question how good an idea this is in the first place, since that very strongly suggests that they believe there's more reason to dislike it than the regulars' usual dislike of change (since they've made significant changes in the past in spite of that).

I'm honestly wondering if Lok was on to something with "it looks like the stuff I use adblock to block." Maybe they're trying to make it look continuous with the ads to drive up accidental ad clicks for more revenue.

It's probably a case where, after the site changed owners last year, the new owners came in and went "We love everything so much, that's why we bought it. Now change everything so we can say we put our own distinctive mark on it." That sort of shit happens a lot with acquisitions.

And then Allen basically gets told by owners who barely know what they own that he needs to make radical changes, but he also knows the site's users will mostly hate any change he makes, so he's sort of forced into making minor cosmetic changes to justify keeping his job to the bosses, while not scaring off what's left of the dying userbase.

I half expect that they'll wait a while for people to "get used to" the shitty new layouts then roll them across the site. There's no way they're supporting two modes. They're too fucking lazy.

The only question is whether the redesign is more like Herd coming up with the Ding Dongs or suggesting that Ric Flair cut his hair and adopt a gladiator gimmick to "get with the times"

At any rate, Gamefaqs is going to tank in just a couple years and get sold to a competitor who will raid our tapes library.
