Oh yeah, that stuff about used Mercedes reminds me, there's actually a whole thing about them. They're fairly solid, but once something breaks, it's literally cheaper to buy a whole new car instead of trying to fix that one small thing. So if you get one used and something, even as small as the cupholder or window doesn't work, you'll probably never get it fixed, unless you want to dump 20-80k. It's impressive. There's apparently lots full of once 100-150k mercedes selling for under 20k, but no one wants to touch em for this reason.

20-80 k is a gross exaggeration. Ive had some electronic seat controls fall off a couple times and at most its 100 for parts and labor. My old co worker drives a late 90s e-class and had to replace some bearings. $300. No idea where youre getting 20 k for a cup holder lmfao.

I had a 2012 Optima Hybrid and that thing was in the shop with engine problems within 60 days. That experience just put me off. I will never buy a Kia again.

I replaced that car with a 2014 Maxima. Its just my individual experience but the Maxima is better in every way besides gas mileage.

My experience with Nissan is that they are built in a way that makes every repair more difficult than it needs to be. I help my friends with their cars all the time, I don't deal with nissans designed after 2000, germans cars that were bought cheap, or electrical issues. and their CVT transmission is arguably the single worst transmission ever built.

that being said, they are fine cars until they don't work.

It depends. I forget which era, but they did have a very complicated and fancy cupholder that deployed. It'd cost a few hundred or thousands to fix. Some also have hydraulic windows, which is a fortune to fix as well.
Either way the main advice for getting a used Mercedes is that they can turn into money pits fast. It's kinda like the Chrysler Crossfire that was around briefly. Only a 30-35k or so Chrysler, but it uses a Mercedes sourced V6, so maintence isn't normal Chrysler. Also used special low profile tires which were expensive at the time.

That high number wasn't specifically for one part, but rather taken from various sources pointing out why you see them so cheap. Because they can become money pits.

I think Acuras look nicer but those faux luxury brands are a ripoff if you want to drive them for more than a few years.

my current ride is a 2005 Acura RSX that i've owned since 2007. the only mechanical problem i've had with that thing was the starter dying like 2 years ago. everything else has been normal maintenance (oil, brakes, tires, etc).

I'd vote Acura.

I do think the Honda UI is one of the better ones in the market, and typically they've been a bit ahead (like AA and Carplay years before some competitors).

A European car will of course have better on-paper performance, but you're never going to see any car at this level at its limit. On one hand, it does seem like a Honda/Acura/Infiniti is so expensive to the point you might as well shop a BMW/Audi/MB, but in reality the latter is more expensive to maintain after warranty. It's really a case of finding out "you're not doing THAT well" financially, if the situation is "flexing" to upgrade to one of those cars.

I do drive a Nissan Z, and have rented the Infiniti QX50. Nissan is in a bit of "clean slate" phase as they transition from Ghosn. Their previous gen products and support imo was iffy. I couldn't trust my Z with a dealer most of the time unless it as a flagship.

The QX50 literally felt like a Nissan. I also thought the large infotainment interface was stupid. I've driven most of the Lexus F line and it does feel different than a Toyota. Although there are things I'm not 100% hot about with Lexus either.

It is true through that Toyota and Honda have been making much better interiors than before. If you don't need that badge and mechanical indulgence, you might literally be happy with a high-spec'd Camry or Accord.

I drive a 2013 Acura TL SH-AWD.

This car was my first in the premium/luxury segment and I've had the car for about 5 years now. I got this specific model of the TL because I didn't want to sacrifice performance for reliability as you might for a German car. The car has been dependable all this while and the body exterior/interior has held up well. The Milano leather is slightly aromatic and you can tell when you get into the car on a warmer day. I also like the grumble from the exhaust when you start it first thing in the morning - very sporty.

The Acura dealership experience has been great too. They treat you well and are very accommodating. I can get a free loaner from them anytime I need - and those loaners are often loaded and not the base model cars.

Acura at least has the NSX supercar and they're working on Type S-ing everything in their lineup starting with the current TLX.

I fail to see how a $120,000 grand tourer with a V8 is any less interesting than the RC F. Theyre practically the same price now.

But that actually gets back to my main point, TC is looking at Acura and Infiniti. I doubt hes cross shopping with 120 large Lexus models.

The NSX isn't a supercar, it's neither exclusive enough, expensive enough, nor priced high enough. A supercar is something like a Ferrari 812 Superfast at the bottom end, or a Mclaren Senna at the top end before you start getting into Hypercars (Mclaren P1, Pagani Huayra, Koenigsegg Agera, ect...)

The NSX is just a sports car like it's contemporaries- 911 Turbos, AMG GT S, and Corvette ZR1's which are not considered supercars.
