Citizen Kane premiered 80 years ago today.

I don't normally vote in this, but dark, you should check out a documentary The Battle Over Citizen Kane. Pretty interesting story about how the real inspiration for Charles Foster Kane tried to shut down the movie.

Before I watched it, I kind of had the perception that Citizen Kane would be a very stuffy, difficult film to get through because critics fawn over it so much, but it turned out to be quite accessible and fun to watch. I'm perfectly capable of loving terrible people as characters, but I've never found his particular archetype that enjoyable. scarletspeed7 posted... Pretty interesting story about how the real inspiration for Charles Foster Kane tried to shut down the movie.There is also the movie Mank, where this is pretty much the whole plot. I have not seen that documentary though, so I'm sure it does a better job.When I was a kid, we went on a road trip through California visiting our various relatives, and Hearst Castle (which is now basically a museum) was one of the stops. Unexpectedly, I found it interesting. The swimming pool, secret doors, and the big fucking tree he flew in via helicopter were the only things i remember, but I think i still recommend it if you're looking for touristy stuff in the area --- You did indeed stab me in the back.
