Also apparently PC Skyrim has never been #1 as well? I think there's some metric of this Top 100 I don't understand.

IIRC, back in the old days, older game boards tended to hold onto the top spots. I would guess a game like FF7 probably held onto it, even when FFX was first released. I wasn't here in 2001 though.

Edit: For Skyrim, I would think PS4 Skyrim would have been #1 at that time.

That would make sense I guess depending on how much message board activity is weighed.

Xbox 360 Skyrim peaked at 1, PC at 2, and PS3 at 3. I guess I'm just a little surprised that the PC version didn't have a little longer life at the top than Xbox 360 and would've hit #1 when Xbox dropped a bit.

Oh, huh, you're right that Xbox 360 beat out both PC and PS3. I'm so used to the Playstation versions generally being the default for multi-platform releases like that, but I guess there are exceptions.

Smash Melee was released in North America 2 weeks before FFX. GTA 3 was 8 weeks before.

Could also be FF7 or Pokemon or Zelda keeping it from #1.

FF8 and Pokemon Fire Red also have 5000+ days with a best of #2. FF9 might be more interesting to look at, it has just under 5000 days, but its highest rank ever was #18

Smash Melee is most definitely the culprit I'd say.

I entirely missed the case of FFIX. Maybe people soured on Final Fantasy after VIII, but enough to never let IX get over #18 is very odd.

That's cool to see. FF8 and 7R have never reached 1 either, apparently. But something like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite has! Yeah idk what they judge this by.

With so few people on this site these days I wonder if we could push FFX up a few spots ourselves!

When did the games list start? That could be why FF9 never got too high. Also FF9 only started to be well liked later.

FF7 has enough days for 22.5 years. So Fall 1998 at the minimum.

Could be earlier, no idea if it ever fell out. FFX has apparently never fallen out, or close to it. It has enough days to date back to the week of the Japan release.

I seem to recall the peak rankings getting reset many years ago. I'm not really sure why, though.

Yes, at some point, those peak rankings reset, but not the total days on the list. It might have been when we switched over to Gamespot's servers or something like that.

I looked through archive.org some more and the peak ranking change seems to coincide with moving the servers to the west coast in summer of 2003.

"Like any big change, we're not 100% yet, and you may find minor glitches, strange data, and missing information here and there."

Guess that part was never fixed. <_<
