It's pretty pathetic. To say "Hey uhh if you like the video leave a like"

I know how Youtube works dude I don't need YOU to tell me to like a video if I like it like I am in Kindergarden. Kinda like how I don't need someone to tell me to eat when I feel hungry. I am pretty familiar with all the basic human functions. I don't need you to talk down to me like I was born yesterday and I don't know that if I like something I like it.

Whenever someone does that, even if its a Youtubers I like, instant dislike.

People can at least be more creative with it, they all literally say the same thing. At least be funny with it or creative with it or something. You know? Instead of being a drone.

Bald and Bankrupt is my favorite YouTuber for this reason. No requests for likes or subscribes, no jump-cuts, just a dude commenting on and exploring interesting places in Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

I would love leaving likes on videos, but for some reason, YouTube felt it was a good idea to add it to a fucking playlist. I don't want videos in a fucking playlist, if I did I would add it myself. I actively don't push the like button, even on videos I would otherwise do so. If there's a way to turn that shit off, let me know.

It really does seem like a pointless thing to do because I figure if people like your content they're going to do it anyway.

I think the issue is that sometimes you just forget to.

I have no issue with it because this is a job for many YouTubers, and if you enjoy the content, I don't think a YT'er just trying to make sure they encourage people to keep them in the algorithm is annoying at all. If you dislike a person's content because they ask that you give them a like if you enjoyed the content, then clearly you didn't actually like the content.

Asking people to like and subscribe makes them far more likely to do it than if they don't

Youtubers who are part of a network are literally told to do it

I can sort of attest to it myself, I only subscribed to Joel Haver after he asked in one of his videos because I realized I hadn't

Blame Youtube's algorithm, not them. I doubt they like doing it anymore than you like listening to it, but it works.

You're not the target audience.

YouTube metrics show that the people who tell thr audience to like the video get far more likes than people who don't. Many viewers just won't bother otherwise.

Like I get it's dumb to say it to you, TC, but these YouTubers would literally be costing themselves money by not telling the casual viewer to like the video. They're not gonna sacrifice cash for your convenience.

Don't flood me with crap about liking and subscribing before I've even seen the freaking video. I will dislike straight away. I would accept this at the end of the video.

"If you enjoyed this video, please consider subscribing"

Comes off as less pushy.

So the youtuber may (not) change their content if enough people say they don't like it. Youtube doesn't care either way as people watching is all they care about as a view is a view, regardless of if you like it or not.

I see why they need to. I never liked a single video until just a couple of years ago when one of the channels I subscribed to explained what the purpose was. I don't click the like button on text messages or rate apps or do any stupid surveys like that. I used to just watch the videos and then move on. I've become better at it but even still a lot of times I'll move on to the next video on the playlist without hitting the like button. So I definitely see why they need to keep reminding everyone all the time.

That's just feedback for the content creator himself. Both can boost their popularity but if a video gets a ton of dislikes compared to likes (or even meets halfway) that can make them think what was wrong with the video.

I do agree that having all that stuff at the end of the video makes way more sense than doing it at the beginning of the video, but I imagine it's done because the average watch retention is the first few minutes of a video.

I dunno, putting "like and subscribe! also, buy some stuff" at the beginning makes me less likely to keep watching

The fact that they have to keep begging for it means they are looking at the analytics and loads of people arent doing it.

I use adblock on my comp and i never hit the like or subscribe button. If i like the video, I just save it to one of my playlists. And i sometimes comments. But i never felt the need to click that thumb up button.
