As someone who read almost the entire comic, they did alter the nature of certain events and how certain characters are introduced and *woke-ify the show but the story is just too good to not experience.
*=genderswapping, raceswapping, feeling the need to have a character always callout something that is or might be sexist, changing a villains reason for destroying Mount Rushmore to "because they were racists, etc."

Warning show is rather violent though.

I love that JK Simmons voices Omni-man.

Though its got everything you could possibly want from a superhero story, robots, aliens, alternate dimensions, evil super-geniuses, talking dinosaurs. It comes from the creator of Walking Dead and totally deserves attention because it is probably my hands down favorite super hero comic.

I hope the voice acting steps up a bit as the actors get more into their characters.

Even good ol JK Simmons sounds a bit flat in a few scenes.

Understatement. It is an accurate depiction of living in a world with superheroes.

Never read the comics because of the early tracing scandal, and then because what we heard coming out about the plot was wierd and brutal and conveyed in a way that was off-putting; gave the first season a shot, really liked it, really like what they did with what they had.

I binged the whole thing starting Sunday night but mostly yesterday. It was very good. I didn't realise they changed plot stuff (and straight up omitted parts entirely) until after I finished. I don't care about spoilers and went ahead reading all the plot summaries of the comic. Some of the changes annoyed me in hindsight, but I think they'll have to change stuff later for sure because shit gets wacky. Even by comic standards. Its extreme to the point of parody at some parts and I did not see that coming from what we've seen so far. As crazy as this season got (the last 2 episodes were fantastic) it still had this seriousness overall that left you properly shocked. I can't take some of the things later seriously it broke my suspension of disbelief. The alternate dimension saga is extremely silly and convoluted.

Side-note, I got serious Vegeta vibes from Omni-Man. The Viltrumites are pretty much sophisticated Saiyans. It was hilarious how at the beginning they were talking about how hot he was. And I was like no shit, daddy got a phat booty tho. The animators seemed to delight in showing it off any chance they got too with some dramatic JoJo's style poses.

I think a live action version would have to cut out a ton of stuff or have a huge budget for special effects or it would look like crap

and even though Invincible is a MUCH better comic from what Ive read so far, The Boys kinda tells a vaguely similar story and beat them to the punch

I could imagine a lot of people reacting like Oh so this is the OTHER show about superheroes being really flawed individuals and how terrifying that would be

That comes much later on. I have no idea if they'll change that, it would actually fit the tone of the current show. Some of the other stuff though is ridiculous, hard to take seriously. I only read overall summaries for arcs so maybe I missed the nuance behind later events, but it looked like the writing went off a cliff.

the comic sucks ass compared to the show

they changed so many plot points in the show that, reading the comic, it just feels like a discombobulated mess.

many characters are changed entirely, william isn't gay and is kind of a huge douche, amber doesn't even show up until way later, and is just a white blonde girl with no relevance, villains are different, the guardians don't even make an appearance until the thing happens so it lacks as much of a punch.

they also foreshadow the omniman twist in the show far better, he has entirely no personality in the comic at all so the impact of the twist is...like it's just a thing that happens. there's no feel to it.

and the art style is weird. i don't like it.

The show both jumps around a lot and expands a number of minor plots from the comics.

Cory Walker's art style probably isn't for everyone. It borders on cubist style at times but I like it. Ottley picks it up after a bit and it looks more "clean" but also more generic.

Helly opinion/10

And I doubt you've actually read the comic. I know the closest I got was binging the wikipedia entry back when the adaptation was first announced.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

First, it still gets new readers. Second, the expense and current storylines are probably a bigger factor. I enjoyed comics years ago, but most are fucking unreadable these days. They generally either heavily chase the SJW crowd (which has never read comics and never will read comics) or are being written by life-long comic fans who treat them as canonical fan-fics. Third, the explosion of anime and manga (as well as other media) has taken away a lot of people who might have otherwise read comics. It's no surprise that there's been a superhero-themed boom within that industry, with series like MHA, OPM, and others taking off. Personally, the only superhero series I've really actively followed in years has been a Chinese webtoon >_>

I guess the final reason would be the expense, although there are streaming equivalents nowadays.

And it's noting when you see comments like "So many comics that arent even that old have aged like milk culturally," they're almost always from the kind of guys who wouldn't read comics no matter what was done with them. And, as previously noted, a good chunk of why comics suck today and the readership is on the decline is because companies are trying to appease those guys instead of producing things that might interest readers. Granted, for the big companies, they're probably getting more money from using the comic characters in other media so they don't really care as much about the comics themselves. Otherwise they might have the balls to say "Fuck political correctness, the moral guardians, and SJWs" then produce something that might actually take off.

Episode 5
Sweet its the Battle Beast reveal, love this guy, could have made him a bit beefier though. Also the mom was never some sort of super sleuth lol but fine.

Also wtf I didnt realize just how much has changed/compressed, by episode 6 they arent supposed to be visiting the college they are supposed to be attending college. They dont know Rick Sheridan thattt much. He also tells William he is Invincible a lot sooner. And they find the re-animen lair in the sewers because William dresses up like a homeless guy and falls asleep on a park bench and Mark follows him after he gets abducted. Also it isnt really clear that Eve moved to Africa. /Booknerd-nitpickings

They can't not have him isn't he like the main villain of the whole thing. Him and a certain hero. Though his dimensional shenanigans are hard to take seriously at times, I hope they rewrite some stuff there. Also the original writer is one of the executive producers on the show so these changes are most likely coming from the source, or at least not happening without his direct oversight. I think he's set on making a better more streamlined version of his comic.

I dont see how its hard to take seriously when we have a plethora of other silly things like a super intelligent talking dinosaur. (late comic spoiler). I thought the interdimensional stuff brought some of the coolest parts of the comic into being like alternate versions of Mark (another mid-late comic spoiler).

I guess now that everyone is into this now I should finish the last few volumes of the comic.

But to answer you, thats the great thing about Invincible, it has a lot of great antagonists and A.L. was one of the most important ones, just a little off put by the shows weird chronology.

Yeah its the multiple Marks thing I'm talking about, not the concept itself but the absurdity it gets taken to. A lot of stories do the whole "alternate version of the mc" thing especially with evil versions. I could have seen that coming. But it gets to where you have a bunch of them on some barren wasteland planet cannibalising each other. And it's like wtf. That and the dinosaur thing is some JoJo's style nonsense. I guess the comic is wacky from jump so it doesn't take you out of it. The way the TV show has gone so far is that it has that crazy meme side too, but sparingly. Its brought down to earth pretty quickly. You have a balance between normal action and comedy, and then crazy stuff. They only went full crazy in the last episode with Omni Man trying to prove a point. In the comic it seems to veer off into full wacky plot territory.

Also how many times this AL guy seems to be gone and keeps coming back. I was reading Mark's story arcs with him and it was like dude just die already. Felt like it dragged on too long and was getting very convoluted with how much his dimensions were affecting the overall story.
